Traveling by train to the 1937 National Open Championship in Denver, Ben Hogan decided that he would keep his hands in shape during the train ride by special exercise and so he bought a hard rubber ball for the trip. All the way to Colorado he kept working the ball, squeezing it and then relaxing his grip. He repeated the process over and over again all the way to Colorado. But when the morning of the first round of the tournament arrived he couldn't control a single shot. He had lost all sense of "feel" in his hands, which is essential to tournament golf. It was a mighty expensive experiment in so-called "special exercises". (From: "Power Golf" by Ben Hogan, Pocket Books Inc., 1948, p5)
R.I.P. Arnold Palmer.
Lesson learned; Don’t squeeze your balls too hard and too long. Otherwise it won’t feel right.
Nothing to do with your message, but....
assuming the National Open is the U.S. Open, the 1937 Open was held in Birmingham Michigan.
The 38 Open was held in a suburb of Denver.
I just gained back four hours of my day thanks to your advice.
It’s a direct quote from his book. Could there be a difference between “The U.S. Open” and the “National Open Championship”? Could old Ben have his dates mixed up? Who knows. A quote’s a quote.
“Dont squeeze your balls too hard and too long.”
Dont forget the shaft which is essential for good strokes...for the balls. It’s essential for gol, wait, are we talking about golf or something else?
You’d think that someone who lives and dies by kinesiology would know better...
As far as the ball exercise, I would think he simply thought a bit of exercise would be good. But it's a matter of over-doing it, and humans are historically wont to appreciate when that line has been crossed.
cripes...sorry...I know it’s a quote. I re-read what I posted...didn’t mean the way it sounds.
Besides to much practice debating can make you go blind.
I understand. And as far as this applies to Trump, I think he’s probably taken a sensible middle way. I think he’s a man who knows himself, doesn’t get rattled; and he has smart people advising him.
