TAMPA, FL -- A pet dog nearly died Wednesday after someone shot her with a BB gun 26 times in Tampa, Fla.
Hillsborough County Sheriff's investigators are now searching for the shooter, who faces animal cruelty charges.
"She is an innocent animal," said Lola's owner, Noelle Perez. "She's been traumatized and I feel like every pellet is a reminder."
The suspect shot 26 silver BB's at Lola, an 8-year-old pit bull/lab mix.
The vet removed 15 Wednesday, but several are still underneath the surface.
"She has a BB right in her head so I'm pretty sure that was at close range," said Perez.
Investigators are now reviewing social media posts that may lead them to a potential suspect.

Once some animal lovers get hold of this guy, he won't spend time behind bars.
Animal lovers aren't always crazy cat ladies. Sometimes they are tough mofos.
I count myself among the latter.

If I knew who did this, they would gain about 100 lbs in BBs, then I’d move on to pellets.
When around humans, watch your back until you know them. They are the scummiest of species.

Vendome’s version of a just and proper punishment:
I would chain his hands and legs, then pull him up four flights of metal fire escape stairs, feet first.
Then I would kicked him in the family jewels just enough to cause a stomach ache every 15 minutes for 8 hours.
After that I would push him out a window letting him fall four stories into a pile of razor wire 5 rolls high and 5 rolls wide.
He could lay in the pile of razor wire for two days in the desert sun and then I would release a flock of crows and 1 gallon of scarabs right next to him
.But that’s just me.
I can’t argue with that at all.
The thing about animals is they really do not have a choice in how they are or behave. At least not that I am aware of.
Humans consciously choose to do the things that they do. Of course, some humans make fine choices.
Other humans... oh...well that’s why I generally prefer the company of animals over people.
BB gun or pellet gun? Silver sounds like pellets which are far more deadly, I have a .22 pellet gun that could easily take doe a medium size dog in a single shot....
She looks like a very sweet-natured, humble dog. Happy as a lark still, even with pellets still in her.
Buckshot with rock salt, sufficient to blow the backside out of his pants, is what the shooter deserves. Not fatal, but he’ll be feeling it for a good long while.
