Central Oklahoma Humane Society is caring for a litter of kittens born without eyelids.
Katniss, Prim, Rue, Theo and Alex are on the prowl, training to take on the world.
Their vision may be weak, but their other senses are strong.
"They're just so lovable, playful and adorable, so it's really hard to even look at them like they have a disability," said Abby Wolfe with Central Oklahoma Humane Society.
Dr. Jeff Studer is a veterinarian and eye specialist at BluePearl.
Wednesday, he will be treating the kittens.
He said the disorder they have is not common and the cause is unknown.
"In this situation, the hair that would normally be on the outside of the skin is now rubbing on the cornea every time," Struder said. "On a few of them, we're going to actually, basically freeze the hairs that are rubbing on their corneas.
Studer said Prims eyes are in the worst shape and one might have to be removed.
"Everybody that's around her believes that she sees out of her right eye, and so we're definitely going to try to save it," Struder said.
After surgery, the kittens are expected to bounce right back.
"It's been a real pleasure to see them grow up and now finally getting their happy endings," Wolfe said.
The kittens will be up for adoption.
They will need extra care, so the Humane Society is looking for a special family who can dedicate time.

Poor kitties, I hope it all goes well.

I read where similar surgery was done on a man born without eyelids. The surgeon used the man’s foreskin since the mucus membranes were similar. The operation was a success! Of course, the man’s a little cockeyed but...
Awwww, catbabies! Poor little things, I hope their surgery relieves them of pain and improves their vision. My own Maine Coon is climbing up my shoulder as I type this. I’m sure she’s rooting for the kittens, too.
And if you rubbed them a little bit they would turn into ears.
PING it to Slings and Arrows. :) =^..^=
They are sure cute!
yep, first thing I thought of too
Please neuter them so that it remains an uncommon disorder.
