Since then there's been very few of note.
There was Allman Brothers Fillmore East, Hendrix Band of Gypsys and, this jewel from the Stones at the pinnacle of expertise.
Don’t forget The Who Live at Leeds.
“Midnight Rambler” was the highlight of Ya Ya’s, imo. Mick Taylor tore it up.
I was so naive. For decades, I heard this song, and it never ocurred to me what your ‘ya ya’s’ were. But then I figured it out. Okay ladies, get your ya ya’s out!
Nothing like "Machine Gun" on that album, played just before clock struck midnight on Dec. 31, ushering in the '70s (at the Fillmore East). My favorite guitar solo ever.
Never before had such drama been captured on guitar.
Since, only Duane Allman on Whipping Post.
Agreed. And both were played at the same venue within 10 months of each other.
“Charlie’s good tonigh’, idn’t he?”
... and Bill Graham played an important part via his backstage speech for Jimi to forget the showmanship and just play .. and he did.
I knew someone who saw that concert. Too bad it wasn't me.
Or The Last Waltz.

Ditto
I’ve been listening to these rock vault stations on Raphsody lately
Obscure stuff I’ve forgotten about
Pretty Things
Strawbs
If we extend the great live albums to ‘72....
Europe ‘72, The Dead
Rock of Ages, The Band
Made in Japan, Deep Purple
I gotta check out Rhapsody one of these days. But I do listen to Pandora occasionally.
9.99 a month for everything
No Prince
About the only holdout left
Much cheaper than iTunes
I pay 12.99 I think for three devices
I just listened to the Wests Moby Dick solo
Man I don’t think anything comes close to that really drum solos rock wise?
Granted better drummers technically like Red Headed mad dog or Cool Charlie
But boy the power
Speaking of the year 1972...
Yeah, no one had the sound and power of John Henry Bonham.
Not suggesting that Pete Townshend was the equal of Hendrix or Allman as a lead guitarist, but he was pretty good on “Young Man Blues” on Live at Leeds.
Nobody did power chords like Pete.
Just watch the version of “Young Man Blues” from the 1970 Isle of Wight concert, even better than on Live at Leeds.
