TSA head: Expect more airport security delays despite funds

The head of the Transportation Security Administration warned travelers Friday to expect long airport security lines to continue during the peak summer travel season despite Congress' shifting of $34 million to the agency.

Peter Neffenger briefed officials in Chicago on Friday about efforts to address crushing delays in getting passengers through security checkpoints at major airports around the country. Congress agreed to shift forward the $34 million in TSA funding to let the agency pay overtime to existing staff and hire an extra 768 screeners by June 15. The agency is funneling many of those resources to major hub airports like Chicago's O'Hare International.

All this suffering for pure kabuki theatre. This is Bush's fault and anybody with half a brain predicted this would happened when Bush created the TSA.

And that’s the crux of it. TSA and much of DHS are the two biggest threats to individual American freedom, IMO.

Stop throwing money at the so-called problem. Eliminate all of TSA. Save a bundle of money!

Airports should have protection under contract not some distant / remote federal bureaucracy.

“This is Bush’s fault and anybody with half a brain predicted this would happened when Bush created the TSA.”

Yes, indeed. The creation of the DHS ranks near the top of the list of unforgivably asinine policies that Dubya perpetrated. That his answer to the question of airport security after 911 was to create yet another monstrous governmental bureaucracy that terrorizes the average person yet does nothing to deliver additional security and added billions to the national debt was wholly in keeping with his big-government approaches to everything.

When they established the TSA didn’t Bush and Congress both promise not to unionize it so they could make quick decisions regarding security and have the flexibility to respond to situations without unions and bureaucracy getting in the way? Another broken promise like Free Trade agreements is Fair Trade,We will fix our broken immigration system and then focus like a laser beam on securing our borders or my personal favorite give us both the House and Senate and we will repeal Obama Care and stop Obama’s agenda. Why were Jeb and Marco rejected by the voters after all they have proven they are willing to reach across the aisle to get things done in Washington just like John McCain. This is just an example of Republicans running on one thing then once elected colluding with the Democrats to defaecate on their voters.

Holding us hostage for more money

The TSA union and the progressives in Homeland Security hold all the cards. The traveling public has zero leverage.

This is precisely how authoritarian government is enabled. The government and our legislators create agencies that control (as a monopoly) a key segment of our lives. Once they are in control they become protected and have the power to make our lives miserable.

When you stand in line in the airport please remember the delays are intentional and you are powerless.

It’s a DISGRACE that the GOP congress hasn’t put an end to this “ work-to rule “maneuver by a govt union to get more money

Let’s get all our unemployed honorably discharged veterans or their family members who want a job into this workforce on an emergency hire basis
And make their managers also are veterans with leadership skill

Remember back then There were solemn promises these folks would NOT be unionized

You can’t pull hindsight on POTUS dealing with an act of war on America

but you can hold accountable every member of Congress since elected who has allowed this agency to develop into an American hating thugocracy populated by incompetents from the top down

The more you hire the slower its going to get. Unless you profile this is a waste of time. There is only one small group of animals who are blowing planes up and we all have to be strip searched to avoid that fact.

Pray America wakes

US airport security. Nothing but smoke and mirrors. Israeli airport security, extensive, and expensive but certainly no less so than a large union of government employees as in TSA and far far more effective.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/daniel-wagner/what-israeli-airport-secu_b_4978149.html

Don’t rely on Technology, human profiling and extensive security before you arrive at the terminal and then more security before you get to the plane. The one area I have not found information on would be airport/airline employees with aircraft contact.

Like any govt agency the numbers of “boots on the ground” are being reduced while the numbers of administrators and supervisors and other useless bread gobblers are exploding. Most of the extra money just goes to executive bonuses anyhow.

Republicans created TSA. It was a monumentally poor idea. Airports and airlines should be providing security not the govt. DHS is the single most dangerous agency ever created in this country. The name itself is completely foreign to America.

I'd rather drive for two days straight than make a day of this garbage. That's why all my vacations are car trips these days. But you can still have all the fun of the airport by making your family follow these travel-safe guidelines:

1. Make your 8 year old daughter dump out her entire packed suitcase and explain why every object in there needs to make the trip. Confiscate random things. Tell her the barbie doll isn't going because it could be a weapon. Tell her that she can't bring her hand lotion because it could be explosive, but she CAN bring it if she drinks some.
2. Pull your wife out of line for additional screening out on the front yard. Sexually assault her because her bra looks suspicious and you were really sure that she had a bomb in her pants. Make jokes about her weight while doing this.
3. Tell the wife and daughter that they can each only have 4 objects up front with them in the car. Everything rides in the trunk, no exceptions.
