That’s interesting about the 999 but it seems the Flying Scotsman was authenticated first. Would have made for an exciting race.

Well, power-wise, the 4472 has the edge: larger boiler and firebox, three cylinders versus two, greater tractive effort due to the additional driving axle, superheating, et al.
