No, Trump has already said he will need to pick a running mate who knows the day-to-day workings of Congress. It should be someone young enough to be a viable candidate in 2024, so Sessions and Newt are not likely either.

Two years earlier, in the makeup room at ABC’s “This Week” with me, Fiorina said something that, at the time, was mildly interesting, but is now revelatory. It was May 2008, close to the end of the long primary battle between Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton, and we were discussing the two Democratic contenders.
At which point Fiorina, then a campaign surrogate for presumptive GOP nominee John McCain, offered some unprompted praise for Clinton: If Fiorina hadn’t been backing McCain, she told me, she would have been for Clinton.
“That’s off the record,” Fiorina immediately added.
They both praised Hillary in the past and gave her huge amounts of money.
I think it will be Christie. He sees the fighter in Christie, and he said it would have to be someone who could take over for him if need be. I don’t think Mr. Trump thinks Mr. Kasich is presidential material (mostly because he’s such a dweeb).
A New York/New Jersey ticket would be something different.
But then again, so was Texas/Wyoming and Arkansas/Tennessee and those were both winning tickets.

Yup, you are right.
Trump/Kasich does make sense and is a very proper choice given the political calculus of grabbing a much needed swing state.
Kasich is a bit of an oddball. His karate chop speech mannerism is a hoot :-)
Trump/Kasich and also Cruz to the SCOTUS makes sense and I can live with those choices.
Reagan/Bush was a MUCH more nauseating situation :-(
The time for deals like this is NOW! Both Kasich and Cruz have leverage at this moment in time to make a deal with Trump. If those deals are made it will cut the GOPee off at the knees and make a lot of people very happy.
