I miss them

Posted on 02/15/2016 10:34:44 AM PST by uscga77

I miss George Washington's and Abraham Lincoln's birthdays. I am not celebrating President Millard Fillmore today. Yet he was the last president not to be a republican or democrat. Maybe we should go back to those days?? :)

These times certainly call for a Great Man to become our next president. It would be nice if a candidate we’re currently considering would turn out to be a Washington or Lincoln. We can only hope...

And remember when Veterans Day used to be Armistice Day?

And remember when people actually knew the reason for holidays such as Memorial Day?

I insist on calling it Armistice Day. And I call this holiday Washington's Birthday.

When days like June 6, November 11, and Dec 7 come around, I ask people if they know what day it is. They usually don’t. :-(

Yes, Armistice Day for folks like my grandfather who fought in those trenches of Meusse - Argonne and St Mihel (sorry about the spelling. )

IIRC officially it is still Washington’s Birthday at the federal level. Some states may change the name.

Suffolk County (surrounding Boston MA) still celebrates ‘Evacuation Day’ which as luck would have it happens to be March 17th.

Apparently, you are the only one who is not celebrating today. Just a fast run into the local Wally World. School age children running about the store (school closed today). Stopped at the bank drive thru. Waited a few moments - nothing but silence. DH said what is going on here? Light bulb lit. President’s day, duh!! Neither Lincoln nor Washington has had a birthday celebration in years. It seems we’ve degraded these men by combining all into ‘Presidents Day’ with there being no available sign of opposition. Some might not wish to celebrate such a special, personal day with another whether friend or foe. Our politicians have all the answers they just fail to hear the question.

A history buff bookstore opened recently about a mile down the road from where I live. Since then I have bought more history books than I have been able to read so far (I’ll get to them all eventually). But there is no such thing as having too many history books, is there? :-D

Heck, no. I have too many books for my dorm room, yet I keep buying more.

Sounds like me. I got books lying all over the place because there isn’t enough room on the bookshelves.
