Norwood Thomas, 93, and Joyce Morris, 88, reunited Wednesday after more than 70 years apart.
A 93-year-old World War II veteran from the United States embraced his wartime girlfriend in Australia in their reunion Wednesday after more than 70 years apart.
Norwood Thomas and 88-year-old Joyce Morris laughed as they wrapped their arms around each other after Thomas flew from Virginia to the southern Australian city of Adelaide to reconnect with his long-lost love.

Morris was a 17-year-old British girl and Thomas was a 21-year-old paratrooper when they first met in London shortly before D-Day. After the war, he returned to the U.S. The pair wrote letters to each other, and Thomas asked Morris to come to the U.S. to marry him. But somehow Morris misunderstood and thought he'd found someone else, so she stopped writing.

Since she’s a divorcee, I think she just found a new sugar daddy...........
First thing I thought about was Mel Gibson’s Forever Young.
My uncle spent RandR time in New Zealand during WWII. He met someone there and loved the oountry. He always lamented not having returned after the war. His commentary on the subject intensified greatly with the rise of O’Dork. He passed two years ago.
Get out the Glen Miller records.
And there's always a girl, isn't there?
Gawd, she is hot in pink...
What a wonderful story.
Never been Down Under, but worked with the Aussies on a couple of exercises during my Air Force days. Great folks.
My favorite story involving the RAAF involves their participation in an exercise at Mountain Home AFB, Idaho back in the 90s (a friend was part of the intel contingent at the base). An RAAF C-130 taxied in, carrying support troops and equipment. After their airmen deplaned, the next thing off the Herk was multiple pallets of Foster’s.
As always, the Aussies had their priorities in order.
“They’re not up there anymore, Norwood.”
