Both recent polls are here, the one where Trump leads by 7 and the one where he leads by 1.

I wonder if Donald Trump will be indicted during the election year at the behest of Obama trying to thwart the rise of nationalism that his administration has tried so hard to destroy.

Logically, isn’t it the Trump supporters who have stood outside then waited hours for Trump rallies, whatever the weather or size of crowds? I’d think they’ve bonded through those events and will go to caucus to keep up that bond.

No one should EVER not vote. Vote the way you want to vote, do not be dissuaded by the polls.

But the subscribers of “conventional wisdom” don’t get that.

For a Trump supporter like me the numbers look promising and the trend towards Trump looks even better. But it’s Iowa, after all and anything can happen.

I agree.

I will be disappointed if Trump doesnt win in Iowa, but I will still have high hopes for NH, SC and beyond.

“Sitting pretty” is an odd choice of words for someone who leads the last three polls by an average of 26-23-19, given the extreme volatility of the race, the problematic internals, and the very clear banking on moderates.

By problematic internals, I mean this:

The PURPOSE of caucuses, instead of primaries, is to reach a bit of a consensus, or at least consensus voting blocks. 35-40% of Iowans, the majority of those who don’t already back him, say they could never back him. (28% say they’d never say that about ANY candidate.) And Rubio’s and Carson’s support levels are very soft, and they favor Cruz 2.5-1 over Trump.

Add to that that Trump is losing among people who’ve voted in caucuses before, and there is no sign from registration stats that there will be many first-timers, and Trump isn’t looking so hot.

You could be right.

We shall see.

I remain optimistic for a 7 point win by Trump, but if you turn out to be right, then I will eat crow.

“He’s probably so far ahead its not worth getting out in the snow.”

I agree. So all the Cruz and Rubio supporters might as well stay home.

Trump does not HAVE to win, Iowa...he WANTS to win, it, but doesn’t have to. The other candidates want to, and have to because of what awaits in NH,SC and the south.

Of course in your world there are no negatives for Cruz at all. Ok...

#2 there was a story on here just today that the local GOP was receiving a massive amount of new registration to the tune of hundreds an hour.

#3 there will be peel off of soft Cruz support to Rubio. Tons of evidence of this the past two days.
And no there is no vote and revote to get to some magical number. The numbers fall where they do.

Cruz must win Iowa.
Rubio must place 2nd in Iowa.

Trump is ok with 2nd in Iowa, because of NH and SC, but if he is less than 2nd he might have some troubles of his own. He could still recover from that, but it would be rocky for him going forward.

“No one should EVER not vote.”

I agree, but I often wonder why the folks in Hawaii bother with federal elections.

Love how these silly media experts are afraid poor Iowans aren’t going to go out and caucus for fear of snowstorm. Hell in the winter, midesternes look forward to an excuse to get out of the house this time of year! Besides, we all walked two miles uphill both ways to school in blizzards so a little snow that hasn’t even started yet isn’t going to keep anyone home.
