As Iowans prepare to head to the caucuses on Monday for the nation's first votes in the presidential primaries, the campaigns are pulling out all the stops. The mailer sent out by one Republican campaign, however, might end up backfiring.
Tom Hinkeldey, a resident of Alta, Iowa, tweeted a photo (which was later deleted because it included his personal address) on Friday evening of a mailer Sen. Ted Cruzâs campaign sent addressed to his wife, Steffany. The mailer was a large card printed to look like a manila envelope on one side and was labeled in all capital letters, "ELECTION ALERT," "VOTER VIOLATION," "PUBLIC RECORD," and "FURTHER ACTION NEEDED."
On the other side, the mailer said in red letters at the top, "VOTING VIOLATION."
Cruz spokesman Rick Tyler confirmed to IJ Review that the mailer was theirs in a phone call Friday evening, saying that the targeting had been "very narrow, but the caucuses are important and we want people who havenât voted before to vote."

They needed to manufacture an excuse or a scapegoat.
The Cruz campaign has confirmed this is their mailer. He’s finished. This is going to BACKFIRE so bad.
It almost sounds like a dirty trick within his own camp.
Makes me wonder what’s going on.
And desperate people make mistakes.
I would not want to be in his shoes, or close to his "line of fire." Trump is going to be piling on, and so is Rubio. Monday night is a weekend away, and all of Monday too.
I got a similar mailer last election cycle (2014). Seems to be the new thing.
I dont think this is a huge thing, but it is still a negative and will add in to the generally trending negative picture for Cruz.
I predict Trump over Cruz by 7 points in Iowa.
Yeah, right. You think something like a Sunday show panel is going to sit down for 10 minutes and talk about a mailer? They know there are real issues to discuss and not these trivialities.
The same stupid type mailer pops up some where every election year. I got one years a go... Bad ideas get recycled
Trump is going to make such an ISSUE out of this like you wouldn’t believe in his rallies today. Everyone will know about it soon. The media is going to go crazy with it.
This might have some positive reaction in places like Florida or New York state....but in Iowa? They’d all take it the wrong way. Yeah, I’d say Cruz is now destined for a 3rd place finish now. Rubio gains from this, and maybe to some degree...Jeb.
All Trump has to do is make a stink and the media will talk about nothing else. You are so deluded.
‘Hinkeldy.’ MS-13? Trust Marco to have their support.

If true, I take back my previous comment about this not being a big negative.
I guess it will be a big negative, if Trump shines a light on it.
Me too. But the return address was a Texas Address for his campaign......
I really like Ted but this is exceedingly poor taste and a complete misunderstanding of the possible implications.
That people are brainless sheep to be led around by their brilliant and astute political overlords.
Quite a few of Cruz's people supposedly quit yesterday. I wonder if this is why?
It’s not only going to be Trump. It’ll be Marco too. There will be a huge pile on. It’s very likely Cruz could finish 3rd.
Its the equivalent of the Carson “grain bin pyramids “ Neither intend on winning —all part of the Kabuki!
Someone else did this (or something similar) in the past, in some election. Vaguely remember it was a Rat, and within the last decade, but could be wrong.
If Ibwere a better I’d bet 10%
