"ALL that is necessary for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing." This famous quote was from British statesman Edmund Burke, who was born JANUARY 12, 1729.

He was considered the most influential orator in the House of Commons.Edmund Burke stands out in history for, as a member of the British Parliament, he defended the rights of the American colonies and strongly opposed the slave trade.

As the bloody French Revolution progressed, Edmund Burke wrote in "A Letter to a Member of the National Assembly," 1791: "What is liberty without wisdom and without virtue? It is the greatest of all possible evils; for it is folly, vice, and madness, without restraint.

I think the French Revolution was one of the most evil and barbaric acts of human history.

That said, I don’t think Catholic Monarchies are the answer either. Look at the current Pope for proof of that. He is at least as radical as the current POTUS who now occupies the WH.

I have a better idea: How about going back to the idea of a limited government constitutional republic as envisioned by our Founding Fathers. A government designed specifically to protect individual liberty and private property rights and free market capitalism. The Catholic Church has never been very strong on these principles. As a Catholic myself, I know. And the Church’s position on illegal immigration is completely wrong.

Factions in 18th century France lusted for power themselves. They ended up beheading even their own leaders as one after another pushed to be the top man.

It is the reason to fear one man with too much power. Some are good others are not. It is why our forefathers wrote the constitution. They had first hand evidence of tyranny.

Let a constitutional republic protect our liberties, yes.

History shows that, ‘enlightened despotism,’ tends to lean more to the latter than the former.

Proof of how Socialist and Left-wing many Church leaders have become, especially the current Pope.

Radical? I’m sorry but I don’t get where the radical accusations come from. Is he sloppy when he talks about non-faith issues? Yes, it’s clearly not his area of authority.

That said, has there been any radical shifts in the Church? Not really. There’s no gaping shift ala Vatican II of a “Franciscan Church” era.

The guy is well meaning, but he’s not going to be remembered as the next Pius X in his firm statements.

Proof that he should stop meddling in the political affairs of Protestant countries?

Considering 'ten' the number of man, as man had ten fingers and ten toes, they created the metric system with all measurements divisible by ten.

Ah ha! The metric system is evil!

He said atheists can go to heaven as long as they are good people! How can you defend that, it’s anti-thetical to the Bible!?!

Is it antithetical if they don’t know of the Lord’s path? If they’re atheists because they know nothing else? What if they were muslim women kept in the dark for their entire existence but lived a life worthy? I’m sincerely asking because I don’t know the answer.

Sloppy???????????????????????????????????????

SSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Pope (like the POTUS) is a full blown Marxist who has nothing but contempt for free market capitalism and private property rights. And he has also fully signed on (as has the current POTUS) to the Left’s globull warming agenda which we all know is a scheme to destroy private industry, increase the power of government, and redistribute wealth.

That was the subject of a heated class discussion in college many years ago. Jesus answered it in the Bible “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man come the unto the Father but by me.”

Our professor summed it up by saying that we need to be humbly grateful that God has allowed us to know the truth.

Most people groups who are unaware of the true God and His Son are unaware because their ancestors rejected/forgot him many generations ago. There are long lasting consequences to turning from God.

Living under a strong-central Monarch with no chance of political recourse by an average citizen is a great system of justice. Look at all that degree of force a Pope could wield, lol.

BTW, TBEL was talking about political "radicalism", i.e. distribution of wealth by force through the government, anthropogenic global warming, etc. not Church dogma. A central monarch with the beliefs of Pope Francis would be disastrous.

To hell with any human led absolute monarchy, even the ones that think they speak for "god".

First of all, I never advocated for an absolute monarchy. Second, the Catholic Church has never advocated unbridled Capitalism, given its abuse by oligarchs.

Read Aquinas, Chesteron, and Belloc. If you think they’re leftists then there’s no point in continuing discussion.

I like free enterprise, but some people seem to put the altar of Capitalism before Christ, and anything that doesn’t mesh with their views of economics in the Bible is to be tossed out.

There were no qualifiers on the staement he made. And he’s said it more than once. That faith in God is not needed to go to heaven. He did not distinguish between a muslim woman and someone who protests at a grade school because they say the words “under God” during the pledge of allegiance.
God is supposed to be first in our heart, but if you don’t have God then by default he’s not first in your heart, wordly things are. I’m not a master theologian, but I can tell you that’s not good.

The same guy who was public enemy of the Argentine government for opposing liberation theology and the government’s socialist policies?

The media has had a field day manipulating him from day one. Case in point is his “acceptance” of gays. The famous “who am I to judge?” was Francis’ blunt admission that he couldn’t clairvoyant whether a paedophile cleric who was punished was truly penitent.

Francis isn’t my favorite, but to suggest he’s this cunning saboteur like so many suggest is incredulous.
