No ticket matched all six Powerball numbers following the drawing for a record jackpot of nearly $950 million, lottery officials said early Sunday, boosting the expected payout for the next drawing to a whopping $1.3 billion.
The winning numbers -- disclosed live on television and online Saturday night -- were 16-19-32-34-57 and the Powerball number 13.
All six numbers must be correct to win, although the first five can be in any order. The odds to win the largest lottery prize in US history were one in 292.2 million.
Officials with the Multi-State Lottery Association, which runs the Powerball game, said they expected about 75% of the possible number combinations would have been bought for Saturday night's drawing.
Since November 4, the Powerball jackpot has grown from its $40 million starting point, as no one has won the jackpot. Such a huge jackpot was just what officials with the Multi-State Lottery Association, which runs the Powerballgame, hoped for last fall when they changed the odds of matching all the Powerball numbers, from about one in 175 million to one in 292.2 million. By making it harder to win a jackpot, the tougher odds made the ever larger prizes inevitable.
The US saw sales of $277 million on Friday alone, and sales of more than $400 million were expected Saturday, according to Gary Grief, the executive director of the Texas Lottery.

Is it weird to say this makes me somewhat reluctant to buy one? The words “be careful what you wish for, you might just get it” come to mind. I’ve always wanted to be comfortable, not drowning in wealth.
I maintain they would increase sales further if they said: it is one billion, we’ll draw fifty winning sets of numbers. Twenty million less taxes per winner.
And yes I’ll probably buy a ticket.

Since I live here in Florida I guess my odds of that are a bit higher so I bought 10 tickets. I hit 4 of the numbers but, darn it, none of them were on the same pick!
This game is a rip-off. Play the lower-odds games in your state.
For every two dollars in, you’ll average one dollar back.
According to one guy who specializes in winning lotteries, scratch cards are a waste of time due to low returns. It’s better to go to the casino and bet on red/black at the roulette.
They are going to take about half anyway.
And it will make just as much difference as if they get it all.

Not unprecedented just merely another govt scam...maybe they are thinking it is maybe the “last time” they can pull one of these after...the crash no one but the 1% will have anything to throw away on gambling. Lets see...they only pay out 50% of what they take in...and they the 4 or 5 that get any real money they tax 50% on the front end before they get any of the winnings...bet the mafia would like in on that!

I won 5000 bucks. The tenth word was worth 1 million.
I did the math based on the odds, and they made THREE HUNDRED AND SIXTY THOUSAND for every 5k prize they paid out!!!

the odds are worse than any underground casino I’ve ever hear of. they had them in Brooklyn when I was much younger, about 25 years ago

I know that has already occurred- my memory is not what it should be- if I remember correctly it was either NJ or Philly where was claimed
I played the undergound casinos back in college just like The Gambler. But I didn;t have the thousand, just “a few’ to get in. I never played the roulette because it could be rigged but the blackjack table was easy pickings because the dealers were amateurs and not pros like in an actually casino.
