freerepublic | Dec 11, 2015 | greeneyes

Posted on 12/11/2015 1:50:07 PM PST by greeneyes

The Weekly Gardening Thread is a weekly gathering of folks that love soil, seeds and plants of all kinds. From complete newbies that are looking to start that first potted plant, to gardeners with some acreage, to Master Gardener level and beyond, we would love to hear from you. This thread is non-political, although you will find that most here are conservative folks.

No matter what, you won't be flamed and the only dumb question is the one that isn't asked. It is impossible to hijack the Weekly Gardening Thread. Planting, Harvest to Table(recipes)preserving, good living - there is no telling where it will go and... that is part of the fun and interest. Jump in and join us!

NOTE: This is a once a week ping list. We do post to the thread during the week. Links to related articles and discussions which might be of interest are welcomed, so feel free to post them at any time.

Good afternoon gardeners. It's a dreary day here, but the temperature is moderate in the mid 50s. I have been rushing around like a chicken with its head cut off trying to get ready for company.

I have about 5 hrs of stuff left on my to do list, and only about 2 hrs. left. So I'm just going to post and dash and I'll be back later.

The lemon tree is starting to bloom, so it looks like we'll have that nice fragrance for the holidays. Hope all is well with you and yours.

Mom and Marcella got your freep mail. Will do tonight before I go to bed, sooner if I can. Prayers up for all. Have a great weekend. God Bless.

Cloudy but warm here. In the 70s tomorrow. Plan on planting the last daffodil bulbs. Dendrobuim nobile orchid is about to bloom.

Amaryllis that had not bloomed has suddenly decided to send up a bloom stalk.

It’s 70 degrees here today and the local weather-woman is saying it’s the warmest December in 20 years. Not true. According to the stats, the average warmest temperature in December in the Piedmont, NC area for the past 20 years is 72.9 degrees. This is not the warmest December we’ve ever had. In fact, in 1908 (or 1924) the highest temp was 77 degrees.

The garden is still a wreck. I did get my tulips and daffodils planted last month. The puppy however is house-trained so there have been successes outside of gardening. Hope everyone has a beautiful weekend!

82 here today. Also broke a sweat in long pants.

Finished most of the harvest on the lemon tree. This time a 6 gallon bucket. With the remaining that'll probably total 12 gallons this year. Not bad.

With the warm weather I also noticed it's putting on blooms again. Sheesh.

I did managed to swing by Harbor Freight and pick up a bunch of tarps. Haven't needed them so far but I am expecting a very cold January and lots of citrus covering.

Oh my goodness! Those cookies look divine! They look like the type of cookie that you tell yourself to have “one” and before you know it... an entire row somehow just disappears! You should give Lady Bender a smooch for all her hard work :)

Those cookies look delicious. I’m not much of a baker but at Christmas I sometimes make my homemade almond toffee. We’ll be seeing some family for a change and I’m also going to bake my Serbian grandmother’s walnut roll (povitica).

Pea plants are flowering and some have produces peas! And it seems that one more rosebud is forming. Lettuce and mustard doing very well. Temps could possibly get into the upper 70’s, low 80’s. Hardly seems like Christmas at all.
