A 25-year-old woman whose car flipped over on Long Island on Sunday emerged from the wreckage relatively unscathed — only to be struck and killed as she later went back to retrieve her property, police said.

Brittany Leith, of North Babylon climbed out from under her vehicle on the Southern State Parkway at Exit 36 at about 3:54 a.m. and made it to the shoulder of the roadway with the help of other motorists, state police said.

Re: at about 3:54 a.m.

Late Saturday night/early Sunday morning. Quite possibly been drinking.

Maybe it was some really good brandy or something like that. It’s damn sad actually.

Trigger Warning.....She is a member of The eggshell generation. Went back for her phone because her safe space was violated and wanted to post about her wreck.

RIP Darling.

Sounds like she tried to take it with her and was unable to like everyone who’s ever tried.

According to State Police Senior Investigator Thomas Hughes, Leith was adamant that she had to collect her belongings despite warnings from other motorists.

Years ago I was on the PA Turnpike, in a section that had the northbound lanes closed for road work and all traffic was on the 2 southbound lanes. An old couple hauling an old silver stream camper started to fishtail coming toward me... and I had nowhere to escape to. Slammed on the brakes just as the camper and car flipped over on their side and came to rest feet in front of me. The camper was leaking fluids all over, and there was smoke coming from the car.. so I went to the car and climbed up to the passenger side (the car was resting on the driver side) and pulled the couple up and out of there... I was worried it was all going to explode.

I got no thanks whatsoever... the woman screamed at me because her purse was still in the car. So much for doing a good deed.

It didn't happen unless you snapped a selfie.

I wasn't expecting that ending. < /shakes head>

I’ve often wondered about sudden death and “unfinished business”. Will she spend eternity trying to retrieve her “things”?

Reminds me of the song Teen Angel

_______________________

Teen Angel

That fateful night,
The car was stalled
Upon the railroad tracks.
I pulled you out
And we were safe,
But you went running back.

[Chorus:]
Teen Angel, can you hear me?
Teen Angel, can you see me?
Are you somewhere up above,
And am I still your own true love?

[Verse 2:]
What was it you were looking for,
That took your life that night?
They said they found my high school ring
Clutched in your fingers tight...

[Chorus:]

[Verse 3:]
Just sweet sixteen,
And now you’re gone.
They’ve taken you away
I’ll never kiss your lips again
They buried you today...

(chorus)
Teen Angel... Answer me... Please...

Reminds me of

Matthew 24:17-18 Let him which is on the housetop not come down to take any thing out of his house: 18 Neither let him which is in the field return back to take his clothes.

I was just happy to be alive myself. If that thing hadn't turned over and slid to a stop I would have had nowhere to go... there were cement dividers along the center of the highway, and metal guardrails on the outside. The car and trailer were fishtailing so much there would have been no way to get past them.

That happened to one of the top graduates in my high school class, she overcorrected and flipped her car, survived that relatively unscathed but was killed by passing traffic once she got herself out. People coming upon an accident scene don’t necessarily recognize that, especially at night, and don’t expect people to be standing in the roadway. Accident victims are likely confused and a little in shock too, so their actions are not the wisest or safest given the circumstance. Get safely away from the vehicle and safely away from passing motorists, seriously.

PA roads, a death trap from border to border. I’m sorry that woman was rude to you when she should have been kissing your posterior.

You should have taken her by the arm and said “Here, let me help you back in.”
