The seven-year-old Belgian shepherd dog, or Malinois, was "killed by terrorists" when French special forces raided an apartment building in Saint-Denis early on Wednesday morning.
Police National tweeted:"Diesel, a seven-year-old Malinois, police dog for RAID [France's anti-terrorist police unit], was killed by terrorists in the ongoing operation."
The police spokesman said that dogs such as Diesel who are trained to assist on operations where there is a risk of explosives were "indispensable" to the elite unit.
The brave dog was reportedly the first to be sent into an apartment, which was used by at least six jihadis in the run up to the attacks, to assess the level of danger before they stormed it.
Rest in Peace Diesel.
#JeSuisUnChien started after the hunt for Islamic State militant Abdelhamid Abaaoud took a deadly turn in Saint-Denis
I’m guessing if I posted this on Facebook my “friends” would be more likely to “like”and comment than they have been about the people being killed.
while it bothers me these animals (terrorists) got one our own, someone please explain how an animal has the cognizance to be “heroic” ? - its an anthropomorphic attribute
He gave his live so that “people” wouldn’t have to.
I had a beautiful Border Collie that lived to 16. Her last year of life she would still walk with me, but only a few blocks.
The local Mooooooozlum little tykes in the neighborhood would laugh at her, because she had trouble walking.
I thought to myself that in her younger days, the little bastards would be running away from her to their Muzzie mommas like the creep scum that they were.
The dog is a hero and closer to being human than any of those scumbag savages!
Hi McGruff,
I hope you are well. Thanks for posting the photo of the canine hero. I recently acquired a Malinois puppy (4 months) from a breeder that had 18 years LE and military training/handling experience. He told me the pup (because of her bloodlines and his observation) would be exceptional in tracking. He said that included drugs, explosives, and cadavers. He was surprised that all of his LE and military contacts were over spent on their budgets and could not find a way to purchase this fine animal.
The more I learn about the Malinois breed, the more impressed I am. I’m confident that Diesel was a loyal, faithful, protective animal. I’m sorry he was killed; but know that it was his training that emphasized others. I’ve already seen those instinctual traits in mine.
I got my pup for personal protection, and as a full time companion.
I grieve with Diesel’s owner/handler.

You’re awesome!
Thank you for your kindness.
We should all hope to be so brave when we meet the mf's.
RIP doggie.
See him in doggie Heaven. Mission accomplished canine hero.
The 2 legged muzzie beech went the other one way direction.
A great loss. I do have doubts about the woman blowing herself up. They need to look for a remote.
A woman. There’s something to think about.
Well stated, my FRiend.
I can’t resist adding another photo. Diesel’s coloring is similar to my pup. I hope she lives up to the example of Diesel.

I am absolutely NOT a “dog person,” but I was “friends” for 8 years with George, a black Belgian Shepherd. Loyal to a fault, tough as nails, and feared nothing.
RIP, Diesel.

I have a dog named Diesel. A Dudley Lab. His exhaust isn’t visible, but it will burn your eyes.
I’m printing that picture of Diesel, Thanks! He just looks smart and sharp! Imagine all the commands he knew! I can barely get my French bichon to sit! It’s my fault though, I only had cat experience so he is not at all trained, but he is loveable.
