Like it or not, you freaking limey, SW is part of the cultural fabric -- OF THE WORLD. Every place in the world that has any technology knows references such as "Use the force" "I have a bad feeling about this" "These aren't the droids you are looking for" "It's a trap!" "Oh No My Young Jedi. It is YOU who are mistaken. About a great many things" and of course "I made out with my sister?"
These are universal touchpoints that draws the world together. Not the hateful liberalism you espouse, piers, that separate people.
PIERS said that he never watched any of the movies except for 5 minutes and yet he claims they suck?
BTW - The Empire Strikes Back is the apex of the entire Star Wars series, it’s the best! I would put it as the greatest sequel to any movie other than Godfather Part II
I agree. It is called “Star Wars for adults.”
I thought the first three movies were a lot of fun. The second three were downhill from there, and I haven’t bothered with the later ones.
No, it’s not really serious science fiction, but many of the characters are very amusing.
Star Wars for adults was called Spaceballs and was by far the best movie. No one could play a pizza like my cousin Dom.

I think the timing and world events had a lot to do with it. Star Wars first came out at the peak of the Cold War, when all the news was how the Soviets had military superiority over the west, and Star Wars gave, ironically, “A New Hope”.
Then just a few years later, that victory was lived out with the Reagan revolution.
I never tire of watching Spaceballs. I nearly wore-out my VHS copy and watch it on DVD from time to time.
have not been a huge fan, the original (ep III) was a good remake of 30’s serial sci-fi enjoyed it a good deal.

Jedi was half good but half bad so was still better than any of the next 3.
As far as sci-fi it is more sci-fantasy * the list of stupid tech is to long to go into but the 1st one is that “if you jump wrong you might end up in planet” cool .. hit death star with 20 or so old transports going .1C at jump problem solved.

I agree. the first three were OK. I could not get through the the first of the second three. I was hoping Howard the Duck would show up and strangle Jar Jar.

And, how George Lucas made a truly great movie like American Graffiti and years later, made those crap sequels (after years of experience), I just don’t know.
He should never be allowed even NEAR a script containing dialogue. Ever. Again.
