Former President Jimmy Carter is helping settle a dispute between Martin Luther King Jr.'s children over whether to sell King's 1964 Nobel Peace Prize medal and the Bible he carried during the civil rights movement.
King's sons, Martin Luther King III and Dexter King, want to sell their father's possessions, while the late civil rights leader's surviving daughter, Bernice King, opposes the sale, calling the items "sacred."
Earlier this year, a judge in Georgia approved mediation to resolve the legal fight after attorneys in the case said they were close to an agreement and that a mediator would help finish it.
"I am honored to be working with the King family in an effort to resolve the outstanding legal issues relating to their remarkable family legacy," said Carter, who played a key role in Middle East peace negotiations during his presidency and also won a Nobel Peace Prize in 2002.
Carter and the King family said they would have no further comment because the mediation is confidential.
Martin III and Dexter, acting as majority board members of their father's estate, voted last year to sell the Peace Prize and Bible, which was used by President Barack Obama during his second inauguration.
The King estate then sued Bernice King after she refused to turn over the items. A judge later ordered her to surrender the Bible and medal to the court for safe keeping while the dispute was revolved.

For a small donation to the Carter Center for Global Surrender I’m sure.
God help them. LOL
The King kids have been indistinguishable from other off-putting ‘K’ families (Kardashians, Kennedys) in their cash-in-at-all-times avarice.
The mementos are important pieces of history about this controversial, checkered man. (I mean King not Carter :-) Maybe Jimmuh could set up a museum to purchase all the items, satisfying both heirs.
Goodness!
Whatever those items are, they’re not sacred. She chose the wrong words. The bible though would be the word of God.
and after they spend the money they’ll say the items were stolen and demand them back

He wanted mere racial equality (at least going on the “I have a dream” speech). That is passe in this age of Jackson and Farrakhan, he is viewed as a museum piece now.
At some point to somebody he reportedly claimed to affiliate with GOP. Maybe the “Black Republicans,” who hold to that version of history, would be most interested in the King legacy. In which case going to a Democrat like Jimmuh is a big mistake, it will only perpetuate the conflict.
They may have higher value to Bernice King than anything you can get for them. They’re core reminders of her father and his work. They’re family heirlooms and artifacts.
What’s more important, the possessions or the money?
Do the family members work?
To solve this just lock up all the King mementos inside that statue in Washington for 100 years.
