Who Coined 'Obamacare'?
OCT 26, 2011 | ELSPETH REEVE

House Democrats are blocking their Republican colleagues from using Obamacare in letters mailed on the taxpayer's dime to voters, but who made up the term in the first place?

Lots of people are asking this question, getting answers like "Certainly a republican, potentially Glenn Beck" and "I am about 80% sure it was Rush Limbaugh" and "Hillary Clinton's campaign coined Obamacare." Iowa Rep. Steve King claimed President Obama himself made it up. Free Republic posters want to claim credit. Lots of liberals suspect an insidious plot by Fox News. But the answer appears to be: a lobbyist.

eanne Schulte Scott argued for the trade journal Healthcare Financial Management in March 2007 that then-President Bush had “put all his eggs into his ‘privatization’ basket” in his 2007 State of the Union address; nevertheless, he made health care the “issue du jour” for the 2008 presidential race. “Health care is hot!” she wrote, and then made a prediction that seems so quaint given all that’s passed in the last four-and-a-half years:
The many would-be candidates for president in 2008 are falling over themselves offering their own proposals. We will soon see a “Giuliani-care” and “Obama-care” to go along with “McCain-care,” “Edwards-care,” and a totally revamped and remodeled “Hillary-care” from the 1990s.

Dunno, but it needs to be changed to SCOTUScare. Seriously. There is a lot in that title. It’s important that we all start calling it SCOTUScare.

Uh....I don’t even know what to say to that. LOL.

It is the term coined by Scalia in his dissent.

Most of them grew up that way...and NSA has all sorts of precious skeletons in the digital closet..to add to their troubles.

If we get any kind of decent President in 2016,...perhaps we will all get to review our NSA files....

My comment? It’s JohnRobertscare and it is helping to destroy America’s medical infrastructure.

“House Democrats are blocking their Republican colleagues from using Obamacare in letters mailed on the taxpayer’s dime to voters,”

How can the House Democrats block the GOP on this. The GOP has enjoyed a majority since January 2011. There is no “filibuster” in the House. The only way the House Democrats can block the GOP from using Obamacare in letters is if Republicans are in agreement.

I recall, “Hillarycare” being used way back when and I just assume it was a take off on that.

the term Pbmanacare become so ubiquitous so rapidly that there may not be an easy clear answer to the question of who first used the term

Trumancare, Kennedycare, Hillarycare, Obamacare, all the same. National socialist medicine, no second tier private practice allowed. Private practice is akin to being a prostitute selling services.
