I have been all over Port-au-Prince. And I felt completely vulnerable w/o a gun.

That is the downside of traveling.

I was last there one month prior to the earthquake in 2010. Prior to that was 2002 and prior to that was in the late 90s, I don’t remember the year.

I was there a lot from months after Baby and Michelle left till late 90

Sometimes for months on end

Could be hairy tween bandits and coups and dust ups in the Port au Prince flats between various technicals and leftover Macoutes

But places like Jeremy and Jacmel were poor but calm

Interesting. We were there from 83-86. Traveled all over the country and all over PaP. The Tonton Macoutes kept the people in complete fear which lead to some semblance of "stability".

The deshoukage that took place after Baby-doc's departure in 1986 freed the people of the Tonton Macoutes but brought in a new wave of gang/political terrorism that is just one part of the ongoing disaster that is Haiti.
