A Modest Proposal: The Thread Hijack Drinking Game [vanity]
Still me. | Today | Me

Posted on 07/31/2015 11:49:41 AM PDT by Slings and Arrows

The time has come to take action against thread hijackers.

Let me begin with an example of thread hijacking:

Like most Freepers, I am pro-life. Abortion and and euthanasia appall me, and marketing the results even more so. I support candidates who oppose the culture of death, and cheer when it is thwarted.

I also do not find it necessary to mention these facts on EVERY. FREAKING. THREAD.

There is a certain type of Freeper, though, who has no such restraint. For these zealots, any thread that deviates from the pro-life cause, no matter how trivially, is a heresy that must be immediately suppressed.

You are shocked by cruelty to animals? I guess that means you couldn't care less about the cruelty of THE MILLIONS OF CHILDREN ABORTED EVERY YEAR!!!!!

You lost a beloved pet? Why can't you mourn THE THOUSANDS OF ABORTED BABIES WHO DIED THE SAME DAY?!!!!

Your car shredded its transmission and you're looking at thousands of dollars in repairs? Why aren't you thinking about THE BABIES WHO WILL NEVER GROW UP TO BE AUTO MECHANICS BECAUSE THEY WERE ABORTED?!!!!

(OK, maybe I made that last one up.)

Arguing with these people is pointless. It's the same principle as wrestling with a pig - you just get muddy and the pig enjoys it. Similarly, trying to convince them that they are being rude is a waste of time - THE CAUSE is far more important little things like courtesy and respect.

So, what can we do about it?

We can get drunk.

I hereby propose The Thread Hijack Drinking Game. The rules are simple: When a poster tries to hijack an unrelated thread to his or her pet cause, you 1) reply to the hijack attempt by quoting the text in question, followed by the word "DRINK!", and 2) Take a drink (or any volume) of your favorite beverage (alcoholic or non-alcoholic). Moderation is suggested on animal cruelty threads to avoid alcohol poisoning.

This game will not, I admit, solve the thread hijacking problem. But after a certain number of attempts we will no longer care.

And if anyone is offended by my little proposal, I can only say...

DRINK!

As if I needed an excuse...

I’ve been to Walmart, where I got a new Filtrete, and some Ibuprofen and some air freshener. When I got home, I sprayed the filter on both sides with air freshener. I don’t know how long that will last, but I can do it again, and FYI, it smells very nice in here!

I thought of getting a couple of pillows, but the filter was more important. I wrote the date on the side of it so I can check it periodically for dirt, and replace it when I need to, rather than the three months it suggests in the directions.

I hope, wherever I move, I don’t have to put up with smoking neighbors...

And, I had to re-download OpenOffice.org. *sigh*

Now I will see if the whole shebang will come together so I don’t have to go ballistic today.

For what it’s worth, the bleeding ulcers are officially not bleeding any more! YAY!

I was supposed to have a CBC, and when I checked yesterday, all I could find was the Lipid Profile numbers: Cholesterol, 133 (without meds, on milk, cheese, butter, red meat, etc) triglycerides, 55... The rest of the numbers are so “not in normal limits” as to be boring.

Congratulations on having the ulcers under control. We just finished choir practice. My next thing is taking Vlad to re-training for altar servers at 2:00. The other Brothers of Confusion could it, too, but they’re canoeing.

For now, there are no bananas in the house! YAY! Just pineapple...I’m still baffled as to why I didn’t realize I was out of it, but then, I think a few days ago...maybe four...I couldn’t remember how to make a pot of coffee. Honest Injun.

I have a few things to do today, but they aren’t critical. Mopping the kitchen is one of them. It’s looking ugly.

And I never did receive a callback from the County, so I will call again on Monday. Earlier, this time.

Is it Sally or Elen who is into calligraphy? I have several books if whoever is interested.

Happy Caturday!

Went to Weight Watchers. Put on half pound. Bad week for me food wise, birthday is next week so I had a pre- birthday lunch last week at Applebee’s with my friend and godson. Tonight is family dinner at a real nice four star Italian restaurant. Oi vey.

Huzzah for Kathleen’s potty. I’d get her some really cool stickers, like they do at WW when you get near a goal.

So sleepy today. Dunno why. Anyway, I’m going to nap.

I wish I had a bovine lawyer. I love cows.

My lawyer is a nice man, but it would be so much cooler to have a bovine lawyer,

Elen was doing calligraphy, but she hasn’t lately. She already has two or three books.

I have days where I just want to nap, too, so it’s OK if you do it. We will miss you, but you will be back! *hug*

THAT is fascinating! I’d like to learn to do that. All I need are the pen, the nibs and the ink. Oh. Some paper would be good, too... ;o]
