Yahoo News ^ | 30 Mar 2015 | David Alexander

Carter, in a speech at his former high school, said the military has to attract about 250,000 people a year just to keep up with those who retire or leave the service to pursue jobs, education and other opportunities in the civilian world. At the same time, only about a third of the 21 million Americans age 17 to 21 are eligible to join the military, with half unable to pass the entry examination and the rest ineligible because they are unable to meet the physical fitness or character standards, he said.

Note the dichotomy of his actions and words.

Not a grunt, not a REMF, a nothing.

Oh, but he's the SecDef.

Leading from the behind.

High school kids not that keen on joining the new homosexualized Army?

They could always set up their recruiting stand in the chorus room when they do the annual production of Les Miz or Beauty and the Beast. Might get a real big reaction there.

Who would want to risk their life with O’Dumbass. Really he has no plan to give the support you would need.

Ask him he is on the golf course some where.

The liberals have wanted to bring back the draft for a long time.

Don’t know why the do — but it can’t be good.

Considering his boss wants to strip retirement for the military by 20%, I’d say he’s right.

That is quite a recruitment incentive isn’t it?

With the draw down there should be no problems with recruitment. This sounds like another stinking lie to hurt morale and downgrade the standards. The comments at the source are good for the most part.

Also, the tech geeks need to exercise and learn to be team players. They probably do learn that a bit if they are gamers.

Not surprising. A more homo-friendly, religion intolerant, PC, standard lowering, threaten health benefits and retirement force.
Whay the heck would people want to throw their life on the line for “just another job” where you have less control over yourself than you do!
My son would be great in the military, but I have stopped talking to him about it. Why server for a nation of ungrateful bastards?! We strong are becoming a minority.

They need to advertise their free sex change operations more so people are aware of the awesome benefits of the new military.

Stupid Ass. You’re right. He is just like his boss... a big ZERO, a post turtle. What does he care about difficulty in recruitment? Oh, yeah, there won’t be a flaming queer squad without that.

Problems in recruiting? Where does the fool think that might come from?

He is correct... only about a third or less of the right age population can even come close to passing standards... no prior arrest, drug and disease free etc.

Other matters that discourage eligible parties who might do a good job are:

Diversity and lowering of standards
Reduced benefits
Higher S__t detail work loads... just useless crap
Lower pay
Reduced training budgets
Worn out equipment... mainly air planes
On that subject... less flying and more queep.
Mandatory DEMONSTRATION of fealty to diversity to even be considered for promotion
PC run amok
Thought police
Leaders a good man would not cross the street to p__s on if they were on fire.

The liberals have wanted to bring back the draft for a long time.

I think the left prefers that we stay on our course of making the military 50% female.

Here is Mitt Romney 21 years ago, calling for full homolization of the military, in a letter.

“One issue I want to clarify concerns President Clinton’s “don’t ask, don’t tell, don’t pursue” military policy. I believe that the Clinton compromise was a step in the right direction. I am also convinced that it is the first of a number of steps that will ultimately lead to gays and lesbians being able to serve openly and honestly in our nation’s military. That goal will only be reached when preventing discrimination against gays and lesbians is a mainstream concern, which is a goal we share.”

Also, the tech geeks need to exercise and learn to be team players.

You want them to be "team players"

Ya mean like the corrupt team players who head our government, who've aided, abetted and provided freebies and prizes to tens of millions who've broken our laws and rules?

This has been going on decades now and it's looted our national treasure, economy, and changed American history.

And in fact now has corrupt our very electoral process.

Are those the team players in government leadership you're referring to?

You're joking right?

The solution to this is fairly easy and cheap, and so obvious that it makes me question why they keep whining about it instead of doing something positive. That is, I suspect an ulterior motive.

Basically, cordon off a section of the larger military installations, build some cheap wooden barracks, and hire veterans as trainers. Offer a 1 month, 3 month, and 6 month “remedial” course for potential enlistees.

Not just to reduce those who are obese, train those who are not physically fit, or teach those who are illiterate or uneducated, but all of the above.

They are not paid, but get free room and board, and medical for any injuries they sustain. If they have other medical conditions, they fail.

The program for the obese is that they get very lean meals, and spend all day walking. Once most of their excess weight is gone, they migrate to the physical fitness part, which is the most expensive one, because it has gym equipment.

The last group are in classroom. They are of a good weight and are physically fit, so for them those two things are just maintenance. But they get 6 hours a day of classroom.

In any event, I can imagine setting up these sections of military posts at Ft. Lewis, Ft. Carson, Ft. Hood, Ft. Benning, Ft. Bragg, Ft. Knox, etc. More than enough to handle all the recruits the army needs.
