Land of New Opportunity

Unlike Silicon Valley, businesses in Ghana are very interested in adding Blacks who live in America with interest and talent in technology. Companies like Blogging Ghana have built a strong social media global platform, making it a viable employment landing place. These firms are interested in changing an ever-emerging industry, meaning the opportunity is there to be a part of something bold and aggressive. Also, English is the official language in Ghana, so there are prime opportunities for teachers.[continued]

I'm tempted to mention Ebonics, but the issue is so obvious that there's no need to say a thing.

It’s funny, I once worked with an AA lady who was married to a prince in one of the tribes in Ghana. He was something like third in line for the succession, so if his dad and oldest brother ever died, they would have to move back to Ghana (she was from here, he was obviously from there) and live there while he ruled the tribe.

a “right of abode” in Ghana to any person of African descent from the Diaspora. This includes the right to enter the country without a visa, to remain indefinitely and to work there without the usual work permit.

Imagine the outcry if similar privileges were granted for people of Euro ancestry.

The Ghanaian government has offered an official apology for Ghana’s role in the transatlantic slave trade and there is reportedly free land set aside for individuals from the Diaspora.

Very interesting.

Ghana is actually moderately functional.

I am a genealogy buff, and they are many white people with minute traces of African ancestry DNA. Most black Americans are partly white, but the same is true to lesser extant in reverse.

Well as countries in Africa go this isn’t that bad a destination for blacks raised in America. They have a stable government, a prosperous economy, natural resources, and a far higher standard of living compared to most of their neighbors.

Israel extends almost identical rights for Jews. Do you have a problem with that as well?

Dare I say it? Ghana has a large and thriving Christian community. This is not a recent development, but is part of the fabric of the country.

The only problem is...Ghanans speak English...I mean queens English. I went to school with the son of a Ghanan ambassador. Believe me...there would be NO communication between them and the bruthas and sistas. I really felt sorry for the Ghanan kid because he only hung out with us white folks. He had ZERO in common with the AAs.

“African” can mean a whole lot. It doesn’t exactly equate to “black” either. Northern Berber tribes & Copts have A LOT of Caucasian characteristics (green/blue eyes & light skin).

Germanic Visigoths and Vandals actually had Kingdoms around Morocco, Algeria & Tunisia for hundreds of years before the Mohammadan conquests. Not to mention Roman & Greek colonists & traders flooding North Africa for at least 700 hundred years (or there about).

It would be interesting if there were a country in Africa that would be an alternative to the USA for those with real ambition. The problem is that it would leave the deadweight behind in the USA’s ghettos. Another issue is the stability of African countries - they don’t exactly have a record of consistency. (Of course, the USA is no longer a shining example of equal opportunity and personal liberty.)

"minute traces"

That is absolutely correct. My wife had an ancestry search done by her daughter and found she had a black ancestor in her lineage from several hundred years back in England.

So I (jokingly) asked her if she wants to claim some sort of affirmative action benefit. We have no idea what kind, but there's no harm in trying. lol

Not particularly. But a lot of people do. It’s racist, you know.

Here’s my point. Imagine Sweden taken over by a right wing party. “White” people are allowed “right of return,” even those not able to prove actual Swedish ancestry (as opposed to generic white descent), but those with darker skin are excluded.

How do you think “progressives” around the world would react?

It is probable only a small minority of “black” people around the world are descended from people from what is now Ghana. Just as most white people aren’t descended from Swedes.

The problem here is that genealogical research is full of inaccuracies. To take just the most obvious one, it assumes the biological father of every child is the husband.

That’s just not likely, when you’re talking about hundreds or thousands of ancestors.

DNA, however, doesn’t lie. It tells you that you have certain genes associated with specific groups, but generally provides you with no way to figure out when and where the gene got in.

On the other hand, from Ghana’s point of view it’s a brilliant plan. They are a growing economy with a stable government on an otherwise unstable continent. Offering easy entry and job opportunities for educated blacks can do nothing but help their country prosper.
