Microsoft's co-founder has used his own submarine to find the wreck of the Japanese Navy's biggest warship - which has lain undiscovered at the bottom of the ocean for the past 70 years. Paul Allen revealed his amazing discovery to the world on Tuesday, by posting a photo to Twitter of the World War II battleship Musashi's rusty bow, which bore the Japanese empire's Chrysanthemum seal. The Musashi - which, along with its sister ship Yamato, was the heaviest and most powerfully armed battleship ever constructed - was sunk by the U.S. Navy in 1944, taking with it more than 1,000 crew members. But despite numerous eyewitness accounts, its exact location had remained a mystery - until now.

Space Battleship Musashi?
Interesting, I thought her sinking was well documented and both sides knew where she lay.
Hope she is in deep waters and can rest peaceful.
“...Japanese Navy’s biggest warship...”
I thought the Yamato was the biggest Japan ever had.
They made 3. One was converted to a carrier part way. The other was Musashi.
That just doesn’t have the ring like Yamato. Maybe as some porn parody though.
It may not have even been started as it became clear after the war's onset that Japan needed the material for carrier construction.
BTW the Musashi was better constructed than Yamato - it took far more punishment and took longer to sink.
Thanks!
Microsoft billionaires run around doing their fun million dollar hobbies but want to import H-1b visas slaves to under cut their own workforce.
BTW I wonder why the article keeps mentioning ‘combined US/Australia’ forces. They might as well throw in the British navy as well, as I think both countries had token forces present at Leyte.
According to the article she's in about 8000 feet of water.
Excellent!
The Yamato was hit by 11 confirmed torpedoes , reportedly all port side to induce a capsize. Plus over a dozen bombs which knocked out fire and damage control systems. That’s quite the beating. How many did here sister ship endure?
FWIW, my late dad was there as a TBM pilot but was not part of the missions against the YAmato due to burns on his hands suffered as part of firefighting duties after a kamikaze attack on his ship the USS Barnes.
Maybe now they will help locate Amelia Earhart’s plane on the way back to Seattle?
19 torpedoes, 17 bombs +/- wow. Difference in attack though. Musashi was hit on both sides by torpedoes slowing the eventual capsize and sinking. Yamato flooded almost exclusively port side and the crew could not adequately counter flood.
Good naval history. Never knew it.
The Musashi performed better because it had a full crew, sufficient fuel for maneuvering and plenty of alternative targets.
The Yamato was on a one-way suicide mission with an abbreviated crew, enough fuel to get to Okinawa but not return, and only a light cruiser and a handful of destroyers as alternative targets.
I thought Paul Allen was looking for Aliens In Space,SETI ?
