Sorority sisters at the University of Virginia were ordered by their national chapters to avoid fraternity events this weekend a mandate that many of the women said was irrational, sexist and contrary to the schools culture.
Its not about one night of parties, several students said, but about their ability to make their own choices.
And theyre not taking that lightly.
The rule came after a traumatic fall semester in Charlottesville, including the violent death of a student and now-discredited allegations of a gang rape at a U-Va. fraternity. Both forced a thorough examination of campus safety, drinking culture and Greek life.

Dan Rather approves this message. It is, after all, the seriousness of the charge.
Oh yeah. And time to bring out the “more women are beaten on superbowl Sunday than any other day” meme.
War on Men ..... yeah but it’s mostly white men. It would be inappropriate for them to make such request if it concerned black men.
Does UofV have a new Muslim fraternity or two?
But UVa plays Duke tonight in Charlottesville! Big party night if the Cavs win.
Sullivan should be fired .... Yesterday!
...so the feminists who don’t want old white men telling women what to do are demanding that old white men tell women what to do.
Nice.
She is in Rahm Emmanuael school of policy; don’t let a crisis, even a fake one, go to waste.
Could one just quit the sorority and then be free of this restriction?
Well, it’s a known fact that men hit women more on Super Bowl Sunday, plus we know that frat boys and lacrosse players hire strippers in order to rape them. Finally, we are on the cusp of a full moon. I’d say the chances of werewolves tonight on a college campus is better than even.
But UVa plays Duke tonight in Charlottesville! Big party night if the Cavs win.”
...Nope! Not for sororities. They need to cower under their beds wearing head to toe flannel and no make up until the white men calm down. You don’t want to piss off or entice a white guy. Anything could happen.
What next?
No fraternities having “sister” sororities?
No dating between fraternity and sorority members for the women’s safety?
Outlawing beer drinking for members of legal drinking age?
No memorization of the Greek alphabet?
As usual, the desire for an actual list of more liberal regulations is limitless. As is their desire to regulate every facet of everyday life.
They can’t be around fraternity men? What’s the goal, to turn the sorority babes into raging bull dykes? Get out now, girls, get far away from the militant Lesbian League.
But can women go to parties with frat boys? "No way! That's risky! Stranger danger! Let's not get all crazy-like! The girls should stay at home and do their nails and be safe."
What's this story?
Liberals are reimposing the pre-1968 rules under the guise of fighting sexual assaults. Neo-Victorianism at the end of the barrel of a gun.
Yes, actually that is the goal of hard-line feminists. In their demented world, all males are evil and only necessary for reproduction of the species. And if the nutsos had their way, they'd fix that as well.
Not just men, it is a war on freedom and liberty. This is all about excessive control and the basic idea that someone knows better than another. Kids face it the moment that they go to government schools. It continues into college and then into the work place. Then control is exercised by government, both right and left. It bleeds into fraternal and social organizations. Why? Because, this is all that kids know these days - it is either control or be controlled. There used to be respect for peoples' freedoms and liberties and boundaries on these things.
A UVa co-ed was murdered by a vagrant. Which zero to do with the so-called problem of on campus assaults.
Liberals have also brought back race segregated dorms under the guise of fighting racism. It’s pretty amazing.
