Danish archer Lars Andersen might be the most accomplished archer of our time. Not because of any awards or medals, but purely because of what he has accomplished by studying ancient texts and paintings.
Andersen posted a video on Friday attempting to disprove the Hollywood myth of archery. Not only that, he explains how the art of archery is lost on today's archers because a majority of them stand still and aim at their target rather than be able to run, shoot, and hit their targets while also being able to shoot rapidly.
Andersen says that the ultimate feat in archery for him was to hit an arrow in the air, which he thought was impossible.
For me this is the ultimate archery, which I until recently had thought was impossible. It can be done, but requires the handling of the bow and arrow to become completely bodily. You may not have time to aim or think, and you must first be completely convinced you hit, you see, "feel" the incoming arrow and shoot in an instant, he writes.
He’s very good and he even says that, as good as he might be, he’s not nearly as good as a typical archer would have been when it was the weapon of choice.
Outstanding!!!
Seems reasonable: Though he is exaggerating the dynamic movements “somewhat” ..
Still, one does wonder why a “simple” Medieval archer needed needed so long to practice and become proficient, if all he needed to do was stand in one place and volley arrows randomly at incoming knights and pikemen?
It’s certainly possible that he doesn’t have it quite right, but that’s because he’s self-taught using the information contained in medieval and ancient drawings.
He’s trying to relearn what was lost.
Here is the direct link, and this guy is scary, this is the most fascinating news related to warfare that I have seen in many a moon.
I want to read more on this.

Impressive! I recall being 5 or 6 years old and picking up a bow and arrow for the first time. As a right-handed person I wanted to shoot from the right of the bow. It seemed natural. But I was forced to unnaturally move the arrow to the left of the bow. It seemed so wrong then. This guy shows me that my child-like intuition was correct.
I think you might like this, old FRiend! :-)

These guy is very impressive. Kind of makes Legolas in the LOTR movies a little less ridiculous. Apparently that kind of shooting can really be done.
Heck, he makes Legolas look lethargic. lol
Wow! And I thought Elmer Keith was good with a handgun.
He does a lot trick shots but he’s using a 10-20# child’s bow. I want to see him pull a 70# warbow and shoot it accurately at 100 meters.
unbelieveable
For later
This guy was the best archer of modern times:
