NYPD Officer: Not Worth It to Make Arrests "if I Have a Chance of Getting My Head Blown Off"

With reports that the NYPD is looking into as many as 63 threats against police officers, or the mayor this week alone, news also comes of a lack of motivation among the rank and file, undoubtedly contributing to a significant drop in arrest numbers across the city.

“[There’s] just not motivation,” one police officer told [Vice]. “I’m not writing people summonses if I have a chance of getting my head blown off.” When asked if this was his own choice or a precinct-wide initiative, the officer added, “Seems like the entire department is on the same page.”

As the New York Daily News reported, “citywide summons issued this past week numbered just 2,128, compared to 26,512 a week earlier. In that period, exactly one summons was issued in the 84th Precinct, where Liu and Ramos were stationed—just one.”

Well done, Sharpton/Obama/Blasio. Well done. You're going to make life worse and less secure for inner-city blacks.

Why would any cop take a chance when he knows that the politicians don’t have his back? The police simply will not perform to their capability under De Blasio. De Blasio will get the message when real estate values in NYC begin to decline due to an increase in real crime and his big money donors will really scream.

My thoughts exactly. How many young black kids are going to die because of this Obama-Holder-Sharpton insanity? And for what purpose?

I can answer that.

It line Sharpton’s pockets and, if all goes “well”, turn out the base in 2016 in sufficient numbers to keep the Obama secrets out of our reach for four more years.

Yes things are definitely worse but there is always the chance they can get their heads blown off. After all -- he is a policeman FCOL. If he wants a safe job he should find another profession. Having said that .. I do admire those that serve and protect.

Yep - how many have already died, or been injured? How much blood are these people going to have on their hands when 2015 is over? I never dreamed Obama and other libs could do this much damage this quickly.

Right now, if the NYPD were to follow your advice, there would be no NYPD, because there aren’t enough officers that could be hired to risk taking bullets over parking or jaywalking tickets.

The Houston PD said they didn’t make one dwi arrest on New Year’s Eve. My wife said it’s probably because they’re afraid. She also said “They’ve bullied people for years and now it’s coming back to haunt them.” I agree.

Flame away!

The meme is that black lives matter. The stark reality is that they really don't matter.

Maybe NYC should wake the hell up and stop electing far left wackos especially this putz who’s just one more America hating commie rat bastard just like the current one in the White House. New Yorkers were WARNED about him over and over well in advance and they STILL elected him.

Since are the “new” thing to hate in NYC... Time for private security companies to move in. Plain clothes, packing stuff that would make what happened to M. brown look like mosquito bites.

The only laws that should exist are those one is willing to kill over, because the hand of government is force. This way, police don’t have to risk their lives over stupid laws and the people will be much happier.

That being said, policemen aren’t conscripts, they get paid to do an inherently dangerous job.

Can't disagree with the officer.

It's difficult to put your heart into what you do when your boss is an UNCARING A$$HOLE who does not support you.
