Tombstone [AMC] live thread
American Movie Classics ^ | 12-26-14 | Wyatt Earp

Posted on 12/26/2014 5:20:52 PM PST by FlJoePa

I really like this movie. Strange that two other Russell movies are high on my list as well. Used Cars (pretty high) and Escape from New York (on the list).

While everyone likes to say Kilmer took over this movie - everyone was great. Everyone.

Yep, and the cowboy gang was real. Their resting places can be seen in Boot Hill.

I am one of those who think the movie would have been boring if not for “Doc Holliday”.

Who couldn’t love seeing Billy Bob Thornton get smacked across the face and dismissed.

Why Johnny, I forgot you were standing there. You may go.

There was a good article in a magazine a few years ago, by a member of the 6th Cavalry who was stationed just outside Tombstone. He actually knew all the characters and didn’t think much of them.

He said Wyatt Earp was a pimp who pinned on the badge only when it was to his advantage. He thought Doc Holliday was an insane killer.

One of the few modern westerns I like.

I don’t think it was ever a blockbuster movie that got great reviews. I don’t even remember it running in the theaters. I watched it when it came out on tape.

Yes, but not the original headstones. Most of the grave markers are now plastic. I guess the ravages of time (and thieves) probably did them in. I visited Billy the Kid’s gravesite in New Mexico a few years ago. His remains were stolen a few times. The gravesite had iron bars for protection against thieves.

You are not alone in that view. He (Val Kilmer) made that movie in many of his scenes.

One of my favorite’s...I read article long time ago that said Val Kilmer really was sick during filming..flu or something. Makes sense because he did have that clammy, grey look that would be hard to replicate.
