Teacher Raped Student Until She Became Pregnant, Used Metal Ruler to Attempt Abortion

In a shocking case out of Arizona, a student has filed a lawsuit against a teacher who she alleges raped her until she became pregnant and then attempted to cause an abortion when he learned she was pregnant by repeatedly inserting a metal ruler into her vagina.

The lawsuit filed on behalf of Jane Doe and her parents was filed November 20 in Maricopa County Court against Horizon Community Learning Center, a charter school, and teach former teacher, David Depuydt. In the suit, Doe claims that, when she was 16, Depuydt was named her supervisor for a community service project she was required to perform. The lawsuit claims Depuydt repeatedly sexually assaulted and raped Doe both in a school bathroom as well as his classroom.

daviddepuydt“Depuydt utilized his inherent authority, trust and position as a teacher and community service project supervisor to target Jane Doe based on her gender and subject her to multiple instances of illegal sexual harassment and discrimination,” the lawsuit states.

When Doe informed Depuydt she was pregnant, Doe says in the lawsuit that “for the purpose of performing an abortion, defendant Depuydt repeatedly inserted a metal ruler into Jane Doe until she began to bleed profusely.”

According to the lawsuit, Doe suffered such emotional distress after what happened that she attempted suicide.

Courthouse News has additional details about the lawsuit:

Depuydt was arrested in August 2013 on 13 counts of sexual conduct with a minor, according to court documents.

A day after his arrest, Betsy Fera, the executive director of Horizon, publicly posted a letter informing the school community of Depuydt’s arrest and that the victim was a student, the lawsuit states.

“The knowledge that Jane Doe was the sexual assault and rape victim discussed by Ms. Fera quickly spread throughout the students, administration, faculty and staff of the charter school,” according to the complaint.

As a result, Doe says, she was subjected to sexual harassment by her classmates, and was called a slut and a whore.

The Does claim that members of the school’s staff saw Depuydt leaving the school bathroom with Jane Doe, leaving school with her, and spending time with her outside of school hours before his arrest.

“The charter school and its administration failed to take effective action to prevent the sexual harassment and sexual assault of Jane Doe by defendant Depuydt,” the complaint states.

Depuydt pleaded guilty in August to two counts of sexual conduct with a minor and two counts of attempted sexual conduct with a minor. He was sentenced to 5 years in prison and lifetime probation.

After a fair trial, take him to Florence State prison, strap him to a table and put him to sleep.

Question: why didn’t she report the rape? Considering that it happened more than once? Just a question, not an allegation against the girl.

“He was sentenced to 5 years in prison and lifetime probation.”

That’s not nearly adequate enough. He’s scarred this girl for life and could’ve killed her. He abused his authority and is a child molester. 5 years won’t help anything at all. He’ll just get out and rape other girls, probation or no.

Add a zero to this ridiculous 5 year sentence, along with chemical castration and we might be in the vicinity of justice. And if anyone can prove this Fera leaked the name of the victim, another prosecution should be in order, along with a civil suit.

Child rape is one case where mandatory minimum sentences are needed. No discretion left to idiot judges like this one obviously was.

Well apparently she was doing community service under his supervision. So I’m guessing she was already in sonme trouble with the court, and this guy was authority over her.

If so, she probably didn’t feel she could tell anyone or he would give the court a bad report on her. It sounds like this guy had a lot more authority over her than just a normal teacher.

Again, if it’s legitimate to question the existence of the Catholic Church because of abuse scandals, why are we not permitted, based on the much greater number of sexual abuse cases in public schools, to question the legitimacy of public education, or of public-employee labor unions?

ANOTHER REASON TO HOMESCHOOL

This ping list is for the “other” articles of interest to homeschoolers about education and public school. This can occasionally be a fairly high volume list. Articles pinged to the Another Reason to Homeschool List will be given the keyword of ARTH. (If I remember. If I forget, please feel free to add it yourself)

The main Homeschool Ping List handles the homeschool-specific articles. I hold both the Homeschool Ping List and the Another Reason to Homeschool Ping list. Please freepmail me to let me know if you would like to be added to or removed from either list, or both.
