There are local laws here that ban direct access between a kitchen and bathroom.

I remember seeing old houses here built many years ago that had the toilet directly off the kitchen, one house had no partition at all between the bath and kitchen.

One old hillbilly came into some money years ago had had himself a modern house built. He refused to place a toilet in the house as he said HE “would not s**t in the same house he ate in”. So he had a nice modern brick split level ranch style home with a brick outhouse out back.

Don’t laugh! A raid on a local meth maker found a trailer with no toilet. The maker had cut a hole in a lounge chair and crapped on the floor or into a bowl.

I remember a construction guy saying bathrooms and kitchens, those with plumbing and waste water connections, are the most expensive to build. That’s why old houses have ONE bathroom. A second one is a luxury.
There may only be one wastewater and clean water connection, so the bathroom and kitchen have to share it. But the shared air between them increases the risk of food contamination.

I think you are onto something. Every one in France is supposed to be licensed to butcher but muslims regularly cut their lamb in the bathtub.
