Dyegate: Dye from blue jeans discolors iPhone’s plastic strips

“BGR has spoken with several iPhone 6 owners over the past couple of weeks who have encountered a very annoying issue with Apple’s new iPhones,” Zach Epstein reports for BGR. “The issue involves pockets on men’s jeans, but this time it’s not a matter of Apple’s gigantic iPhone phablet fitting into pockets. In fact, these particular iPhone users might wish their smartphones didn’t fit in their pockets.”

Epstein reports, “Some iPhone owners who don’t cover their phones with a protective case are finding that after sliding an iPhone in and out of the pockets on their jeans for a period of time, some of the dye from the denim is rubbing off onto the plastic strips on the back of the phone.

“The result is an unsightly discoloration that makes the iPhone look dirty and old. Conventional soaps and other cleaning products one might use in an effort to remove the darkening on the plastic strips apparently have not worked,” Epstein reports. “One BGR reader jokingly referred to the problem as ‘Dyegate.'”

Does tho mean jean makers are going to have to stop using this dye, to accommodate Apple?

Are they washing their jeans before wearing them?

Mr. Magic Eraser, surely one of the greatest inventions of all time. It might be right after soap itself in terms of cleaning.

I used it to get a magic marker stain off of wallpaper.

That’s how good it is.

LOL -— It’s pretty amusing to watch the ADS sufferers struggle to come up with something — anything -— that is problematic with the iPhone 6 & Phone 6 Plus.

In case you don’t know, ADS is short for Apple Derangement Syndrome.

Forget ebola. Loose blue jean pocket dye. That’s worthy of a full on panic.

Nail polish remover on a cotton ball should do the trick. First thing I did with my new Galaxy Note 3 was buy a cover.

You can find them a lot cheaper on Amazon than from the store you buy your phone from. It’s real nice leather like. Less than $15 bucks.

For clothing there are DYE catchers that can be reused a few times. Especially with RED or dark dyes that bleed.

What do the legs of iPhone-and-dye sufferers look like? Blue streaks at the seams, back of the knees and butts along with any other pressure points? Are those only skin deep or have they become permanent tattoos?

I took the plunge and purchased an iPad mini4. It was in my possession for just over a week, but went back to Sam's after the last straw ... after downloading an ‘update’ to the IOS8.1 system the thing just shut itself off into camera mode and all efforts to turn it off or send it to the home page resulted in a screen capture. The clerk at Sam's Club explained that hers had done this so many times that she was given a secret restart protocol ... but she still wrote up the return and refunded all I spent that day. A quick trip to Best Buy got me a useful Insignia, the portfolio to carry it in and a 64 gig SD card. And I kept $125 from the process of changeover.

The blue jean stained Apple phone may become as cool as the worn blue jeans.

The next venue of attack — Dyegate — iPhones left in jeans pockets can pick-up the dye from blue jeans on the plastic antenna gaps. This hit the HTC One Phones last year that have similar plastic parts, but that garnered no headlines. The HTCs cleaned up easily with Mr. Clean Magic Eraser, so if your new iPhone 6 is suffering from the Blues, try that — PING!

I call BS, unless MAYBE someone had a BRAND NEW, Dark-dyed (never washed) pair on, and they got damp while being worn...

But I agree - even if true (doubtful) - #firstworldproblems

Bingo. LG phones from a year ago did the same thing. And Mr. Clean pads cleaned them just fine. Nobody published big articles on them.
