Apple's new privacy features protect kidnappers, pedophiles and terrorists, according to FBI director James Comey.
In an interview on CBS' "60 Minutes" on Sunday, Comey said Apple's encryption standards for iPhones and iPads "put people beyond the law."
Apple recently took measures to enhance user privacy. Now, only users have the key to unlock text messages, photos and emails on their device. As such, iOS 8 will shield your data from anyone -- including police.
Here's how it works: You send a text message that's encrypted on your device. It passes through Apple servers as jumbled code nobody can crack. And it can only get decrypted by your friend's iPhone passcode.
Google has announced it's doing the same for its Android devices.
The FBI director isn't pleased.

Me thinks the FBI director isn't telling the truth and every communication is stored in Utah for the government to analyze. I don't believe the government can be trusted to secure my personal information. Also I don't like it that Apple and Google act as messaging communication channels, since they spy on us for marketing purposes. Where is the industry competition and the consumer protections we deserve?

Thanks. I’m going to keep a close watch on mine for any suspicious activity...
So far it’s just sitting there, but thanks to your warning, I’m going to prevent it from protecting any pedophiles in the area.

Myself, I suspect the iPhone and etc. have already been cracked by the government and they’re lying about not being able to get into them as a way to lull people into being less careful with cell phones. Not like I ever have anything important to say, but if it’s personal or whatever I sure don’t say it online or on the phone.

So if we have to trample the privacy rights of 300 million Americans so we can more easily catch the hundreds of pedophiles, well then that's the price of Liberty.

He is lying. They can get a court order to have the owner unlock his phone. If he doesn't, he goes to jail.

"Won't someone please, please think of the children?"
Apple's new privacy features also protect the privacy of those of us who are not kidnappers, pedophiles or terrorists. There are plenty of ways to track down and stop criminals without taking short-cuts over the rights of the huge majority of innocent citizens.
To: Citizen Zed
It’s “for the children.”
They need a new lie.

Comey is the hack who put Martha Stewart in prison during the Bush days, so don't pretend this is just Obama’s tyrannical attitude.
While everybody’s hair is on fire because of ebola and a handful of cave dwellers, our country is methodically decimated by bureaucrats. We deserve it. Our ancestors didn't. But, we do.

"put people beyond the law."Nearly all citizens should be beyond the law as practiced by our unionized, political police force.

Myself, I suspect the iPhone and etc. have already been cracked by the government and theyre lying about not being able to get into them as a way to lull people into being less careful with cell phones. That's doubtful. Apple and Google are staking their reputations on the line with this claim. They're more afraid of consumer backlash than they are of of our government's threat of unprosecuted pedophiles. And consumers are demanding this level of privacy.
We can all thank Jennifer Lawrence.

Sorry, FBI, but we put just a little less belief into your statements than we do for those coming from the Obamadork/fabricator/felon/idiot/POS.
To: MeganC
Agreed. If they can’t crack the code on your iPhone they are wasting their time trying to intercept Russian or ChiCom signals.
