My Dad had a 1962 Pontiac Catalina, he taught me how to drive on that car. I found out years later the transmission was rebuilt in it, those early Hydromatics were prone to overheating, and some bodywork done to it and it was actually used in a couple of street scenes in the Bronx during the filming of The Wanderers.
I grew up in a small town in northern Michigan and remember back in either late '68 or early '69 before I left for the Army, I was with my cousin in his 67 Camaro with the 302 performance package which he of course souped up, driving a sort of desolate road between Boyne city and Boyne Falls when we spotted Mickey H.'s GTO on the side of the road.
Since there had always been a sort of rivalry between my cousin and Mickey, we popped the hood on the GTO and "borrowed" the chrome hood on his air filter........LOL!
Beautiful color combination. It seems like most of them sold in my area were an odd butterscotch color. I have no idea why.
Best car I ever owned was a 1955 Chrysler Imperial land yacht. Would love to have a car like that today, but dream on.
I had a 1969 Chevy Nova.
Bought for $600 in 1978.
Back then, in the late 70’s, those 60’s muscle cars where everywhere and really cheap.
I miss the feeling of being a passenger in those big cars. Like floating on clouds.
