Up to this point, the tunneling process only involved one particle tunneling through a single barrier. Hanns-Christoph Nägerl and a team of researchers at the Institute for Experimental Physics of the University of Innsbruck, in Innsbruck, Austria recently learned of a process for quantum particles to pass through as many as five different barriers simultaneously via an effect called Bose enhancement.
They created what they call a physical quantum simulator that can imitate other quantum systems. They cooled cesium atoms to almost absolute zero or -459.67 degrees F. They next put the atoms in an essential optical lattice created with multiple intersecting beams from high-intensity lasers. At this low temperature the various random movements of the atoms ceases almost entirely resulting in no energy being left for the atoms to move other than through the use of quantum tunneling.
Nägerl and his group applied a force which to some degree altered the energy landscape, tilting the board to permit the quantum particles to travel down it. The investigators however didnt discover that the particles were tunneling through a single barrier but instead witnessed multiple particles moving through five different barriers.

I have to guess, without further information, that these guys know a lot more about what they're doing than I do. Nevertheless, I will venture to opine that "Bose enhancment" refers to the elementary ( as it's taught ) fact that transition probabilties are proportional to the final state occupation number, which fact accounts for "lasing". Carry on.
I have “Bose enhancement” in my living room -got it hooked up to My FM receiver.

Those Bose guys come up with EVERYTHING!
Quantum tunneling is an interesting thing.
It can be observed by using a cheap electronic part - the simple tunnel diode.

Oh, don’t be upset if you can’t understand this phenomenon...no one really understands it. The quantum world is very mysterious and unfathomable compared to the simple Newtonian world we all ‘seem’ to exist in... this Newtonian world is built upon the quantum world and thus is actually just as mysterious... but at least it seems to make sense to us.
We don't now and never have seemed to exist in a simple Newtonian world. We live in an obviously Quantum World. Newtonian physics accommodated itself to this by accepting as "given" the quantized properties of elements and their compounds, such as water. Why should water be? This was a question that was "unasked" along with many others, in the preQuantum dark ages.
Bose-Enhancement refers to the fact that bosons are "statistically" attracted to each other even in the absence of an interaction potential. Loosely, they "want" to occupy the same energy levels, even when there is no potential energy advantage to doing so.
It does indeed make lasing possible, because the photons stimulated out of the energy level transitions in the gain medium have the same phase, polarization, and energy as the photons incident on them -- this happens because the released photons "want" to be like the photons that have stimulated them [they are bosons.]
It's not limited to lasers. It's impossible to make much sense of this article, which has very little actual physics, and does not really describe how Bose-Enhancement is working in this particular experiment...

Ah, but if only Physicists were truly open minded to the different. They would discover that their conceptualization of dimension Time, taken now as an invariant given background in which things happen/exist, is far more vector-like, and then they would discover what Haisch, Rueda, et al have uncovered regarding inertia and gravity, with the added note that it is the vector nature of time as it first manifested that causes inertia and gravity.
