Nasa releases images of prototype Mars space suit

Nasa has released pictures of a prototype space suit, parts of which American astronauts could one day wear on the first manned mission to Mars.

The public voted on three different designs for the Z-2 and the "Technology" design won by a landslide with 63 per cent of the vote.

The design uses luminescent wire to form a light on the front of the suit that can be personalised to help astronauts identify other individuals on their team. The Z-2 is a prototype so will not be making any future trip to Mars itself as it does not have the ability to fend off the extreme temperatures and radiation of a flight into space, but Nasa said elements of the suit could one day be used by the first astronauts to visit Mars.

The Z-2 is a development on the original Z-1 design that Nasa released in 2012, which was the first major overhaul of space suits in 30 years.

“The public voted on three different designs”

You have got to be s***ing me. The PUBLIC voted on the design? Whatever happened to designing a suit for the job not for some beauty contest.
God Knows this nation is doomed.

They don’t even have a ride to the ISS now and they’re window shopping for Mars space suits? Give me a break. If there aren’t any illegal alien (unquestionably alien) votes there, it just ain’t gonna happen folks. Count on it.

Just more bloated bureaucratic unneeded government agency wasteful spending.

I don’t know, but given that Mars has actually a little over 1/3 of the Earth’s gravity, you’re going to need something much lighter than the moon landing suits to be practical. Plus there’s the problem of seasonal dust storms on Mars when the CO2 is thawed and there is that weak atmosphere.

This is what you get when NASA spends your cash on global lying, muslim worship and democrats running the show.

I guess that a large label on the suit with "Hello, My Name is Smitty" printed on it is just too easy.

Nasa? You mean NASA? It's an acronym, not a proper noun.

Of course! The Racially Ambiguous astronaut. How perfectly PC of NASA....

[Shades of the SNL Ambiguously Gay Duo!]

I’d be willing to bet you they had more design meetings on what the astronaut would look like that what the suit actually does.

Thing is as butt ugly as the new Tampa Bay Buc uniforms. Nike must have designed it as well.
