The scene, discovered by archaeologists in Illinois more than 40 years ago, depicts one of the most extravagant acts of violence ever documented in ancient America: A thousand-year-old pit found under a tall earthen mound, lined from corner to corner with skeletons — 53 in all — neatly arranged two bodies deep, each layer separated by woven fiber mats.

1050 to 1150 CE
What the hell is CE? Are we now to expunge BC and AD from our vernacular, to appease the heathen hoards?
Man, our culture is dead.
Village attacked and destroyed while most of the men were out hunting or warring?
Or perhaps few men left in the village due to recent fighting.
If you’re going to mass execute females, most would vote for 14-15 year olds as they are the most problematic.....haha...teenager girls learning to ride the hormone rollercoaster of womanhood.

I don’t know about you, but I pronounce it as “Christian Era”.
It seems earlier generations of archeologists were more confident in their ability to sex skeletons than they deserved to be.
Since they were doing large scale human sacrifice—chances are good they did the same thing as the Aztecs. They sacrificed people they captured in battle. That means that they would be surrounded by mortal enemies—just like the Aztecs.
It would only take a generation or two of success and comfort to make them weak and vulnerable. At that point their boundary enemies would gang up and burn down the lot of them.
Its pretty much a regular pattern around the world.
I think it is some stupid “common era” crap....
What a complete waste of perfectly good Morenas....
CE = Christ Eternal...got it.
I don’t pronounce it at all.
We have used BC and AD for centuries. Now some idiotic dumb ass has found a need to change it? What the hell is that all about?
No thanks.
It really bothers then that the word Christ is included in the BC. This is merely a stepping stone to moving away from the religious implications entirely.
I believe you are correct. “CRAP” :^)
But, I’ve been taught that all Indians lived in peace and harmony with nature!
That is, until those evil white men arrived and upset the natural balance of getting along with nature!
Snark/off
Must watch DANCES WITH WOLVES again to get my mind right. Maybe a few 1976 Mazola Margarine commercials would help.
CE = Christ Entered.
Much better than “Common era”.
Liberals use BCE meaning “before the common era” and CE meaning “Common era” - it’s their way of diminishing Christ. Whenever someone brings up BCE/CE I tell them it means before the Christian era and CE as the Christian era.
CE has for quite some time been the most common usage in scientific papers and journals.
While the term itself goes back centuries, it was first widely promoted by Jewish academics in the 19th century, who quite reasonably did not want to use a dating system that acknowledged Jesus as their Lord, when he wasn’t.
But we must all remember that all Native Americans back then and now are peaceful and in "harmony with nature and the environment." This excuses any barbaric acts they may have committed. The really evil sub-humans are white Americans. Hollywood and leftist revisionists say so and Hollywood and the Left is righteous, honest and never wrong. Peace and love everyone.
There is no evidence at all of outsiders ever taking Cahokia.
This was almost certainly a massacre perpetrated by locals. The most logical explanation being a funeral ceremony. Many, many cultures have had a history of sending the slaves of the rulers with them when they die.
So do I. Leftists still will never catch on that changing the rules on a whim isn’t a one way street.
I always thought that BCE looks more like part of the alphabet soup in a long British title.
LOL! There were good reasons for plains Indians to be nomadic. After a few weeks, camp stunk, the grass was grazed and converted to manure, the water likely polluted, and things were most likely getting pretty foul.
Time to pull stakes and move.
The real challenge for any concentration of people is to not be buried in its own effluvia, even today.
now both christians and jews have been trumped by the atheists.
