If you ever saw him try to play another position, Mets tried, you could see that he wasn’t even athletic.
“Let him take some responsibility on himself first. Let me tell a Tom Lasorda story. He drafts the son of his HS buddy in the late charity rounds of friends and relatives. This kid did nothing in HS or college, had a reputation for being fat and lazy. This kid goes to rookie ball and is overmatched. He just doesnt belong. This kid comes back to Dodger minor league camp the next March looking like the Hulk. The kid proceeds to bash his way all the way to show. Despite his horrible case of back acne he has a great career and just misses out on the Hall of Fame. If Tom Lasorda wants to make a stand, let him start closer to home.”
Yup!! I was just about to ask why Lasorda doesn’t ask his god-son Mike Piazza about his steroid use. I have no love of Arod, quite the contrary, but he is not the only user out there. Right, Big Papi?
I saw him at a Marlins game last year. We had 3rd row seats and he was in the 2nd row with a rather unusual crowd (all male).
Big Papi, lets see, singles hitter with the Twins. Goes to Red Sox and out of nowhere hits 50+ HRs a year. MLB institutes their testing policy, Big Papi can’t even get the bat around on a fastball. We find out from Bosch, he isn’t the only one, that the test can be beat, Big Papi is back.
That’s a good point. I would suggest that baseball has always tolerated those soft kinds of cheating. Usually veterans like Don Sutton and Gaylord Perry sould get away with it more. It’s sort of like intentional offensive holding in the NFL. It’s only cheating if you’re caught.
Hard to understand when A-Rod and all the top ball players are receiving salaries that would fund third world countries and result in ticket, refreshments and food costs that make it virtually impossible for the average and lower middle class family to attend a ball game...
L
We never heard of steroids.
And you never had multi-million dollar salaries to compete for either......
If I were an average pro baseball player who had the opportunity of increasing my salary almost 10 fold via the use of PED's and thought I could get away with it, I'd certainly give it lots of consideration.
Even if I got caught I would have made in a mere year or two ten times what I made in my lifetime.........
I blame Jose ...
Ortiz’s head is now larger than his entire body was when he used the name David Arias..
Mike Piazza is not Lasorda’s godson, it is his brother.
Also, there is not much of a relationship between Piazza and Lasorda anymore since he was traded from the Dodgers. Notice that neither speaks about each other anymore.
“Mike Piazza is not Lasordas godson, it is his brother.”
Oops. My bad, I thought I had heard/read that along the way.
I thought I was the only one who blamed Curt Flood.
No class.
Big $$$ had a lot to do with it as well.
That’s exactly right. The players have no one to blame but themselves. They sacrificed the guy who never got called up or was only in MLB for a cup of coffee because someone else was on PEDS or was 35+ and extending their career by using PEDS. In exchange PEDS abusers received huge contracts that drove ALL the MLB player contracts up, the users and non-users.

Seems to be a shortage of guys hitting 100 on the radar gun lately. For a while there almost every team had one.
But mean pitching velocity is WAAAY up since 2002. I think a big part of it is that a certain % of tall athletic white kids are opting for baseball instead of trying to compete with tall black kids in basketball. There’s not too many relief staffs that have a bunch of soft tossers. Also I have heard teams are more likely to give hard throwing position prospects a chance.
Not that PED use wasn’t rampant or could be rampant with pitchers now, HGH sounds perfect for a starter trying to go 200+ innings year after year.

Who’s lasorta and a-rod and what’s baseball. /s
How could a 44 year old be the brother of an 86 year old?
I know it's "possible" but not likely.
that's an OLD mama.
I must research.
