Rebooting Carl Sagan's seminal "Cosmos" miniseries three decades later is almost impossible — unless you happen to be renowned astrophysicist and science educator Neil deGrasse Tyson.

For those who may have missed the original back in 1980, "Cosmos: A Personal Voyage" was a documentary series on PBS that explored the universe as well as the history of scientific discovery. Sagan's topics of discussion ranged from Japanese folklore to debunking astrology to the ultimate fate of the stars and galaxies that surround us.

Now Tyson is hosting a new version of the TV series called "Cosmos: A SpaceTime Odyssey," with the first episode airing in March on Fox and the National Geographic Channel.

Oh, crap. I heard they were redoing it. But Neil DeGrasse Tyson is an arrogant, hateful, bigoted know-nothing.

Maybe they should try to find out what Carl Sagan found out about his “There is no God” statement when he reached the Pearly Gates. What’s that old saw?

Sagan: There is no God.
God: There is no Sagan.

Really? I’ve heard him a couple of different times on science programs and never got that impression.

IMHO, I thought he does a good job relating science to folks that know little about the subject.

I think thats the general thought of most hardcore science people. And thats their choice and right, so I got no problem with it. I just ignore it and wait for the science.

And an atheist like Carl Sagan, although Tyson doesn't have the guts to come out of the closet.

I used to make my parents laugh imitating that.

Maybe he was channeling something from the future and dropped a byte or two. Billions and billions and billions and billions of DEBT...

I though it sucked. There is to much that is unknown to make the positive statements that he made.

I'm happy to see that I'm not the only who can't stand that smarmy bastid.

It was cutting edge stuff back in the day and shows about science weren’t commonplace.

I completely disagree with “it sucked”, but to each his/her own.

looking forward to it’s reboot.

Agreed. I used to rent the series on VHS, plug it into a cassette recorder, and play the tapes during road trips. It was quite soothing to listen to.

But, yeah. It really does need updating.

What he said on the subject:

“The moment when someone attaches you to a philosophy or a movement, then they assign all the baggage, and all the rest of the philosophy that goes with it, to you. And when you want to have a conversation, they will assert that they already know everything important that there is to know about you because of that association. And that’s not the way to have a conversation.”
