This was proven by a study by Grethe Jensen and co. (1993), who meticulously counted neurons in matched samples of non-alcoholics and alcoholics. What they found was that there was no real difference in the density or overall number of neurons between the two groups.
In every group, those who drank moderately on a regular basis throughout their lives always had a diminished chance of becoming mentally impaired in their old age compared to those who didn't drink at all or almost never drank.
Now for the negative (there's a lot when it comes to intemperate alcohol consumption, so I'll only cover a few): while brain cells aren't being killed as the result of drinking excessive amounts of alcohol, the ability for your brain cells to communicate with one another is being inhibited.

Norm will be disappointed.
Shocking information. /S
Chronic alcoholics can suffer from a disease called “Korsakoff’s Syndrome”.This syndrome,IIRC,causes substantial damage to the brain but isn’t caused directly by the alcohol itself.Rather,it’s caused by a vitamin deficiency seen in people with chronically poor diets and many chronic alcoholics surely do have abysmal diets.Another group that was affected by Korsakoff’s is concentration camp survivors, many of whom *also* had chronically inadequate diets.
I know a guy like that. He can drink for days without eating and says eating will just make him tired. He prefers to drink instead.
Good post
WC Fields,in a confused,concerned manner to a bartender (Shemp):
"Was I in here last night and did I spend a $20 bill?
Bartender: "Yah"!
Fields, chuckling, obviously feeling relieved: "What a load that is off my mind.I thought I'd lost it"
Especially those naggy "you shouldn't do that" cells. For some reason the keep telling me that I can't dance or sing karoke well. Drink until they shut up for once.
Schience! Ish brillianter than I thought!
It doesn’t kill brain cells, it just makes them wish they were dead.
Whereas Pot studies show it does kill brain cells.
Just stuns ‘em a bit?
LOL. Thanks for the W.C. Fields quote. Another one is:
“Godfrey Daniel! Who put orange juice in my vodka?”
...it just makes them really really stupid.
"That brain cell ain't stunned. 'E's just restin'. Pinin' for the fjords."
It's not the drinking that of alcohol that kills the brain cells, it's the falling down and hitting your head!
