Jeff White discovered the code after checking in for a Delta Air Lines flight from Pensacola, Florida, to Albany, New York, earlier this month, the Washington Post reports.
“At first I didn’t think I read it right,” Mr White, a student at the University of West Florida, told the newspaper. “I was worried that another customer might think I somehow picked that code. If I were a gay male, I might have thought that a Delta worker purposely gave me that code, and that would have made me extremely uncomfortable.”
Delta Air Lines apologised for any “concern or misunderstanding”, but insisted that the confirmation codes “are computer-generated and are completely random”. “We will make every effort to ensure that a similar combination does not occur in the future,” added Russell Cason, a spokesman for the airline.

Racist computers! Or is it sexist? Whatever the “ist,” these computers needs to be banned. They are obvisously very dangerous.
I think their computer should be forced to attend sensitivity and diversity training.

And in a sane world, a man who doesn’t sit down to pee would have just laughed at this and went about his day, not gone to the press and whined like a little b!tc#.
Perhaps the algorithm needs some massaging.

If I’m in charge:
“This code is generated by a computer program. It is meaningless. Your attempt to read meaning into it is stupid, foolish, and puerile. Now if you don’t mind, I have work to do.”
I can bet you with absolute certainty, that some officially-certified victim will someday claim a random code is “hate” speech and sue and win.

Actually, it’s the alphanumeric equivalent of a mathematical checksum. Using just letters and digits, a 6-character alphanumeric checksum gives a universe of 2.17 TRILLION possible flight combinations.
