Cayman Racer Snake Devours Iguana
Cay Compass ^

Posted on 12/11/2013 10:14:17 AM PST by nickcarraway

A Cayman Islands resident captured this Cayman Racer snake in the South Sound area, devouring a Green Iguana.

Cayman Racer snakes are endemic to the Cayman Islands and aren't found anywhere else in the world. Adults have been known to reach the 4-5ft length.

In fact, no Cayman snakes pose any threat to people, cats or dogs however these non-venomous snakes should be avoided by the average Green Iguana!

Imagine how big the snakes were back in the dinosaur days.

Racers aren’t poisonous, and I don’t think they constrict like some of their relatives do. It’s amazing that they can get the iguana to hold still so it can be swallowed.

Not a good morning to be an iguana in the Caymans. It’s amazing how the snake isn’t apparently suffering or the iguana apparently resisting with tooth and claw.

Just about every snake who isn’t venomous is a constrictor.

Some just swallow their prey alive. Like garter snakes. A frog or toad will simply let itself be eaten.

Snakes are either poisonous, or constrictors. I mean..without any limbs..what are they gonna do?

All of the snakes here in Michigan are strictly eaters, not constrictors..............The only noted poisonous one is the Massassauga rattler which isn't that deadly.......
