I had a cat and dog.
The dog was a GENTLE Golden Retreiver.
One time, I'm sitting on the couch, watching tv, with Cody (dog) laying at my feet.
Scamper (cat) comes out of the back room, where his pan was. Scamper had that look on his face, that kind of scowl that he's up to no good. Scamper is 15 feet away and Cody sits up, leaning against my leg. As Scamper walked closer, with that scowl, Cody backed his butt right up onto the couch, until he was sit/leaning against me to protect him.
Scamper walked right up to the couch with that look on his face, intimidating Cody.
Scamper was a 10#ish DECLAWED cat, vs Cody a 65#ish dog.

Proof that liberals are cat owners and true conservatives are dog owners. Hmm. Dogs default to pack behavior, while cats are solitary, patient, silent hunters. There are certainly political / cultural comparisons to be made, if you want to go there.

After much strife and conflict, and cuteness, the solution is to buy enough large beds so that each animal has its own. Then put a box down on the floor and watch the cats all cram into it and ignore the beds.
