NY STATE GUN BAN
self | 7/21/13 | self

NY State banned many firearms some time ago and even required they be turned in (as I recall). Haven't heard a word about that since. What's going on there?

If you own some kind of weapon and live in New York, I’d say there is a good chance you may be violating THEIR law.

It seems they aren’t wholeheartedly enforcing it right now, but that doesn’t mean the first time you get your but in a jamb they won’t come down on you with the force of Almighty Allah (peace be upon you).

even if you have a magazine that is over 10 rounds you are a felon, or at least after January 15, 2014

the guns on the list can be registered and not surrendered. but then they know where they are when they decide to collect them.

magazines over 10 rounds have to be ‘permanently’ modified or turned in.

NY ass hats they call their government is afraid to try confiscation and will attempt by individually attacks slowly. The State capitol would be a pile of rubble to try mass confiscation.

It is a 7 round limit in New York, not 10.

they allow 10 round magazines.

you just are not allowed to load them with more than 7 rounds. this was changed shortly after the law went into effect as being totally unreasonable.

There HAS been a lot of push back from gun owners in NY, but the media can’t be bothered to report on it because it doesn’t fit their narrative. On 2/28 (a bitterly cold, rainy Thursday), between 12,000 & 15,000 people gathered in Albany to protest the unSAFE Act. You probably didn’t hear a word about it (or, if you did, it was complaints by NYS about the grass that was trampled by the protestors & how much that would cost the taxpayers to replant.)

Resolutions against the unSAFE Act have been passed in almost all counties in the state & numerous local sheriff’s offices have spoken out against it. Again, the silence in the media has been deafening. Here’s a link to the resolutions against the act (and the handful that support it): http://www.nysaferesolutions.com/

A number of lawsuits have been filed, but who knows how long those will take. One has already been thrown out (although that one was the flimsiest of the lot).

I attended 2 Albany protests (including the one on 2/28, taking time off work to do so). But I’m done - I moved to Georgia at the beginning of June & I’ll never live in NY again. My only regret is that it took me so long to make the move.

(I just remembered - I still need to get my FR screen name changed because I’m no longer TrappedinNY:-)

It is legal to buy and possess 10 round mags but under the unSAFE law, it is illegal to load them with more than 7 rounds unless you are at an incorporated shooting range.

Sound stupid? You are right! But this is an example of the idiocy of tyrants like Little Andy Cuomo.

Oh, they are enforcing it. But some of the provisions don’t take effect until later. For example, NYers have until Jan 15, 2014 to get rid of magazines over 10 rounds. Also have until Apr.15, 2014 to register or “dispose of properly” and so-called “assault” weapons.

There will be minimal compliance with these laws. That much I can assure you.

And for the NSA reading this, FU.

Truthfully? I’d move the hell away from there. That state has no business whatsoever claiming to be one of the original 13.

Most gunowners here are looking for ways to do exactly that. Of course that plays right into the hands of the tyrants—they would like nothing more than for all of us to leave.

You know what though, this is not a disease only affecting places like CA or NY. This is going to affect everyone in the US. If you think you are safe in GA, consider what the demographics will be like in another 10-20 years. This disease is spreading and I fear it will take a lot of blood to eradicate it. We just happen to be on the frontlines right now. Your time will come.

Gaffer - sadly, I do believe you’re right. The disease is spreading throughout the country, but I figure I’ll get some good years down here before it overcomes Georgia. I spent years fighting the politics in NY, well before the unSAFE Act was a gleam in little Andy Cuomo’s eye. I still stay plugged into the fight up there, but I’m done slamming my head into that particular brick wall. I did feel a small bit guilty for abandoning the front line up there, but I got over it as soon as I had my first whiff of freedom down here. As far as I’m concerned, NY can go the way of Detroit. They want it, they can have it. And I hope they choke on it.

You are allowed to have a 10 round magazine, however you are only allowed to insert 7 rounds into them. The exception is at the range you can load all 10. Thus the restriction is 7 rounds in a 10 round magazine. A little known fact about NY is that CCW is determined by each individual county. Thus many counties upstate are shall issue for concealed carry, while downstate is mostly may issue(ie impossible).

I have one in mind as long as it’s not already taken. I’ll post my “conversion” once I have the new name locked down (I want to keep my history, so it won’t be as easy as just registering a new name.)
