THE BRONX, NYC, NY -- After a year of public outrage and legal proceedings, a judge has simply thrown out the indictment of Officer Richard Haste, who gunned down an unarmed man inside his own home, without a warrant. Haste was facing manslaughter charges until the judge tossed the indictment.

In February 2012, police broke into the home of 18-year-old Ramarley Graham without a warrant, did not announce themselves as police, shoved guns in the faces of the residents and ultimately gunned down Graham for no reason.

“The young man is clearly strolling into his residence, not fleeing.”

(From an earlier story)

The February shooting stemmed from an NYPD investigation of a persistent drug trade in the Bronx neighborhood where Graham lived. At the time, police said investigators identified Graham as a potential suspect and radioed to other officers that he appeared to be armed with a pistol.

A *witness* told police that around the same time, two officers wearing NYPD jackets pulled up and yelled at a man – apparently Graham – “Police! Don’t move!”

After the man (went) into Graham’s three-family home, the officers found a back entrance, climbed some stairs and broke down the door to a second-floor apartment where Graham lived with his grandmother and other relatives, police said.

An officer positioned behind Haste reported seeing Graham run toward a bathroom. He also heard Haste yell, “Show me your hands!” and “Gun! Gun!” before a shot rang out, police said.

Both in the small bathroom, Haste yelled for Graham to hold up his hands, and when the teen reached for his waistband, the officer fired, according to his lawyer, Stuart London.

“I thought he was going to shoot me, so I shot him,” Haste said in a court statement read by London.

Haste fired one shot at close range from his 9 mm semiautomatic handgun, police said.

Do you really believe murdering your brother will prevent kids from making bad decisions?

What's the difference if kids get cannabis from their dad's liquor cabinet, or from a criminal cartel? Is this getting through? People have choices! We don't always make good ones. You are making a bad choice worse, much worse.

Prohibition does NOT work! It only makes a slave of your brother, and a slave owner of you.

Nowhere does the article or video claim that the victim was a drug dealer, suspected or otherwise.

Portraying criminals as pillars of the community or honor students is pretty standard issue reporting. It was satirized in Tom Wolfe's Bonfire of the Vanities, which came out in 1987, but way predates the book. Sacco and Vanzetti were guilty as sin, but the media lionized them anyway.

I think you would be more convincing if you would detail all the many successes of the war on drugs.

And no, I am not a drug user. I haven't consumed alcohol or nicotine in 35 years and can't even tolerate caffeine anymore.

You should realize that YOU can never win this war because so many like ME don't support it. If I wanted some pot I know I can get it within 1000 feet of my house at any time. I don't support killing my neighbors because they have a baggy of pot and I certainly don't want a cop mistakenly killing me or mine because of a meaningless suspicion that we might be in possession of leaves and twigs that grow naturally on God's green earth.

The cost of the war on drugs has been enormous and continues to rise.

What a moronic statement! How much pot do you do? Or has it introduced you to harder drugs as it usually does?

Well, that is a horse of another color, though — is it not true? — that that is your reconstruction of the event, I believe, based on the testimony of the cop.

Or was that his “lie”-amony? We will never know, because we don’t have the victim around to give his side of the story.

I see how your side won in court. I don’t think it is the winning strategy in our streets or prisons.

In other words: Hot pursuit of a drug dealer is not (to my mind) the same as hot pursuit of someone involved in armed robbery or attempted murder.

In other words, he did not need to barge in on the guy’s house. Had he not barged into the guy’s house, we would not be having this discussion, and the victim would still be alive (and, yes, still selling pot on the streets of NYC).

We are probably not going to see eye to eye on this thorny issue, but thank you for your honest thoughts on the matter.

If kids are gonna sneak a toke, and many of them will. Would you rather they get it in a safe manner, or from a sleazy drug pusher?

By criminalizing it you force curious kids to seek it in a dangerous way. Instead of obtaining it like alcohol, they have to get it from the same sleazy drug pusher!

How many Oxycontin do you eat a day?

stupid rationalization... what else do you use it on?

Kids are gonna sneak some sodomy, I guess you’d make sure they get that “safely” too,

a “safe manner” is NOT AT ALL. What kind of parenting is it to say something like that. Bad parenting.

safe manner of animal torture?

on and on

You know what is really dangerous?

Making kids think their parents are okay with it.

Why is your mind constantly focused on that part of the anatomy?

No one even mentioned that poor, deluded, and damned practice.

By focusing on the rectum, you missed the point entirely. When herb is decriminalized and available as other recreational drugs are, then the sleazy drug pusher will be a thing of the past.

Prohibition creates criminal monopolies of criminals.

Would you rather your kid pinch your stash, or deal with the pervert in the alley?

legalizing the narcotic mind alterng drug and you can “share” it with more kids I guess.

Legalizing pot doesn’t end the “drug war” unless you want to legalize meth, cocaine and heroin too

I'll pray for you. You obviously have been personally hurt. The pain and anger are severely clouding your rationality.

Taking the drugs from the perverts in the alley is a good thing.

Murdering them, enslaving them, and robbing them is not!

If drugs are available at the grocery store/pharmacy, the back alley pervert is out of business. No need to murder, loot, and pillage, even if they are perverts.

He killed a man over a bag of pot. I hope he never sleeps another day in his life.
