THIRTEEN years ago, researchers at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum began the grim task of documenting all the ghettos, slave labor sites, concentration camps and killing factories that the Nazis set up throughout Europe.
The researchers have cataloged some 42,500 Nazi ghettos and camps throughout Europe, spanning German-controlled areas from France to Russia and Germany itself, during Hitlers reign of brutality from 1933 to 1945.

She owns that and it will be used as long as she shows her face.
Well, for right now, it's called "sensitivity training" and "community service", but "they're" working on it!!
Germans knew enough of what was going on. Claims of ignorance were lies.
Parents saw neighbors rounded up and had a pretty good idea what was happening. When their kids asked what happened the parents told them “nobody lived there, so don’t talk about it.”
I understand that they were silent in order to protect their kids. I don’t agree or approve of it, but I understand why.
You might include a pic of Hillary when you use that meme.
Not to minimize the evils of the NAZI holocaust (especially since I am Jewish, and had relatives who were both victims and survivors of the NAZIs), the NY Times ACTIVELY covered up the systematic starvation of the Ukraine by Stalin and the Soviet Union. They didn't just ignore it... They published glowing stories and support Walter Durante to this day. How the ownership and editorial staff of the times can live with themselves is baffling to me. They're disgusting.

Dear God, YES!
Carved in stone at the National Archives is a Shakespearean line, “What is past is prologue.” We must know without revision suited to contemporary politicians what went before, whether it’s the Holocaust or Benghazi.
Interesting - and pure coincidence, no doubt - the Clintons’ good buddy, Sandy Berger, managed to erase other history by stealing and then destroying docs at the Archive.
Not all Germans were silent. There was several underground resistance movements against the Nazis and Hitler. The White Rose and Realm of the Black, Red and Gold were two notable ones. I had a great-great-great uncle who was in the latter. He was caught and sent to Dachau early on and killed by the SS. I think there may have been many people who would have stood up but they saw what the SS did to people like my uncle and shut up for their own survival.
Of course, there is also just the mass hysteria of being caught up in a movement. There was so much anti-Jewish propaganda for decades blaming them for all the woes that Weimar was facing, many silently (or openly) cheered.
I know they weren’t all silent. Too many, though, acted like they didn’t have a clue afterward. Not true.
Fascinating information on the German resistance groups. Thanks.

What difference at this point does it make!!
Just visited Auschwitz- Birkenau for the first time a week ago.
Shocking to see up close.
“The real puzzle to me is how so many Jewish people are socialists.”
Christians grow up believing in Santa Claus.......Jews believe that there is a government that will treat them fairly with “Social Justice.”
When they grow up Christians learn that Santa is not real and serves only for the entertainment of Children and Make belief adults.....
Jews seem to spend their whole lives believing the Socialist claptrap, ignoring real world evidence of Socialists dispensing Social Justice at the barrel end of a gun!
I have a jewish lady friend ( the widow of a close friend) that you could not convince otherwise...she is as liberal as they come....Thank God her children take after their dad (a goy) and are as Conservative as they come.....Go figure......
Many years ago I struggled trying to understand this from the perspective of the Jews. I read Hannah Arendt’s “The Origins of Totalitarianism”, what a read. It is the complex sentence structure and original language barries that caused it to be difficult. Most challenging read I ever did.
After finishing, I was still not convinced that I understood completely.
Unlike some Jews most Christians understand that there are things that we simply will never understand. That is where faith comes in. Those awakenings that happen after many years of questioning why an event happens are the important subjects. Many times I asked why only to learn years later what the reason was. Part of the plan, his not ours.
The Germans moved into Italy around 1943, when they realized the Italian Fascists weren't that hot to arrest and imprison Italian Jews. There are two movies that portray the actions of Catholics in Italy to shelter Jews, or help them get out of Italy. One is "The Scarlet and the Black", starring Gregory Peck, about a priest running a rescue operation out of the Vatican. The other is "The Assisi Underground", starring Ben Cross about a Franciscan priest running a rescue operation involving private citizens, and convents and monasteries around Assisi.
Thanks for the movie recommendations. I just added them to my list.
That’s why I don’t shed a tear over Dresden.
Inappropriate name plate.
My grandfather was in Germany as part of a Soviet occupation force at the end of WWII.
He said none of the Germans he talked to were Nazis, but all their neighbors were.
It pretty much brings things into perspective.
All of the Germans somehow knew about Holocaust, most of them benefited from looted Jewish&East European treasure and captured Allied slave labor.
Most of them supported Nazi policy until it went all wrong to hit them.
Germans, with the exception of a few really smart people, fapped for a Hitler’s portrait and believed all the propaganda on how he will smash all the “Judeo&Bolschevisten hordes” just before Allies bombed the last ounce of crap out of them.
But as soon as there wasn’t any Hitler around they all turned to a little sheep, fully unaware or actively opposing anything happened in their beloved Reich 1933-1945 (I wonder who has elected Hitler to office if it was all true?).
