It's a cold, cloudy day with plenty of snow on the ground. Not much good for gardening, but the kind of day when you want to put a stock pot on the back burner, and turn on the oven to bake bread, casseroles, and/or roasts. All to make you warm inside and out.LOL
I have been reviewing some of the heirloom grains this week and need to narrow the list down to 2 or 3 that I will order. Teff and Quinoa are 2 that may make the cut.
I will be planting some crimson clover this week or next as a soil conditioner in a few beds to turn under in April or May. The rest already had winter rye planted last fall.

Yes that is cabbage. That’s Bok Choy, Chinese cabbage and Stonehead cabbage. We’re having some of the Chinese cabbage tonight. :-)
For the asparagus spacing: Single Plants: 1’ 6” each way (minimum) Rows: 1’ 6” with 1’ 6” row gap (minimum)
My spacing between rows is closer to 30”, so I can get the tiller between them.
Also, the packages of dormant roots will have instructions on them.
You want plump, slightly damp feeling, limber roots; not dried out, brittle or limp, nor skimpy/skinny ones. Also, you want several strong roots on each crown; and the crown looking healthy, without signs of mold or mildew, nor dried up.
The crown has the buds to put out the new shoots, but the roots are where the energy is stored to do that job, until the new foliage is established and can start replenishing the roots.
Can’t help with the sweet potatoes.

SAN DIEGO! That’s just not fair! The only thing I miss about CA (and I’m a 3rd generation native) is being able to garden all year around. Not that I’m a great gardener, but CA climate allows you to “fix” mistakes and failures any time of the year, just as long as you have access to water.
Your veggies are GORGEOUS. Way prettier than anything I’m able to grow during our very short growing season. I’m so jealous!
I do the same to keep from poking my eye out on a stake when I bend over. Recycling can be useful!

I hope you get the rain you need. Those peppers that have been going strong for 5 years? Do you mean the same peppers have been growing that long, or do you mean that you have successfully grown pepper plants from seed the last 5 years(new plants each year?)?
Except for trueblackman! LOL! For the first 6 years I was on this site, most FReepers thought I was a guy.
I have a half gallon plastic ice cream tub full of seeds from two winters ago, that I haven’t been able to find since. At least I put them in a safe place. ;-’)
But getting rid of moles, that I can appreciate.

Yes. Put your photos on photobucket, or Flickr, or whatever. That site will assign your photo a URL which can be accessed by Right clicking on your photo and looking under properties. Highlight the phrase under properties and put it on your clip board by hitting CTRL and C at the same time.
Then, go to the FR thread where you want to post the picture. Type in
< img src=" and then hit CTRL and V to paste the URL of your photo into the phrase. End with another " and a >
There should be no spaces in your phrase, except between the img and the src.
Practice a little bit, checking each time by pressing Preview until you get it right. It's a lot easier than it sounds.
That's even more depressing to hear than the broccoli pictured in San Diego! Here, in Wisconsin, it snowed all day!
I’m so sorry. I know a lot of folk love and appreciate snow and wintertime but I have no use for it. Well, other than chilling the tulip bulbs. It is also nice ( and a relief) to see the days getting longer. Hang in there. Soon....
It’ll be spring.
