Windsor votes to remove fluoride from drinking water (Canada)

Windsor on Monday joined the growing number of municipalities which have voted to end the decades-old practice of adding fluoride to the water supply in the fight against tooth decay.

“A lot has changed in the last 60 years … fluoride is not the be-all and end-all to prevent tooth decay,” said Mayor Eddie Francis, who voted with the majority.

… “I want to be shown that when we ingest this, we are safe,” said Kimberley DeYong of Fluoride Free Windsor. She and others said not a single study among those cited by fluoridation proponents looked specifically at the industry-sourced chemical used by the municipality and its impact on human health outside of tooth enamel hardening.

… Peter Van Caulart, director of the Environmental Training Institute that trains municipal waterworks operators, said there’s been a 26 per cent drop in Canadian municipalities using fluoridation since 2005 and that in Niagara Falls, it was the first time council opposed its medical officer of health.

They did the same thing here in Florida. Every member of the county commission who voted to remove the fluoride was replaced in November, and the Fluoride was just recently added back. I guess I just don’t care either way.

There’s really no point if you take halfway decent care of your teeth. I’ve never lived in town or had fluoridated water and I’ve got better teeth than most people my age.

When I moved out into the country and we had well water, I started getting more cavities, until I realized what the problem was and started rinsing with flouride at night.

That seems to have fixed it. You don’t need flouride in the water if you use the right kind of flouridated toothpaste, and rinse at night.

But since a lot of people probably won’t do this, it makes sense to add it to the water, IMHO.

Fluoridated water is of no benefit to adults. Fluoride in the water only benefits children, whose teeth are still forming. I grew up in a non-fluoridated area. Parents could get fluoride supplements and give them to their children if they wanted. In my 26 years as a dental hygienist, I’ve found that lots of kids get too much fluoride in their system, not from the fluoride in the water, but from accidentally ingesting toothpaste. If an adult wants the decay preventing benefits of fluoride, get a TOPICAL fluoride treatment after your dental cleaning. Or else, get a prescription strength fluoride rinse or brush-on paste. Supervise children carefully when they brush. The toothbrush only needs a pea-sized dab of toothpaste. Another thing that helps prevent cavities is to floss your child’s teeth. Kids generally don’t have the manual dexterity to floss their own teeth until about the age of 9. If you are adamant about minimizing your child’s fluoride exposure, good oral hygiene is a must!

If you think fluoride is important for your kid’s teeth (I do) then go to the dentist and get fluoride treatments. They are not that expensive.

I do hope they keep pasteurizing it, though.

50 years ago putting in the water may have been the most efficient way to get the dental benefits of fluoride. Not any more. There are better, more effective, more efficient ways to distribute it.

Topically applied flouride is fine but ingesting is not, otherwise it would be safe to eat toothpaste. No one should be forced to use or ingest a substance. If flouride was so wonderful it would have the same status as other vitamins and minerals like calcium and magnesium and people would purchase it voluntarily.
A BETTER solution to prevent cavities is to eat a diet rich in Vitamin K2. Natural sources include grass fed beef. Check out Weston Price DDS. Vitamin K2 gets calcium from the bloodstream and into the bones and teeth which also reduces hardening of the arteries.

“Nineteen hundred and forty-six. 1946, Mandrake. How does that coincide with your post-war Commie conspiracy, huh? It’s incredibly obvious, isn’t it? A foreign substance is introduced into our precious bodily fluids without the knowledge of the individual. Certainly without any choice. That’s the way your hard-core Commie works.”

I know Kubrick & co. meant this as satire but it seems closer and closer to the world we live in under Chairman Maobama.
