A few miles northwest of Magdeburg there was a railroad siding in wooded ravine not far from the Elbe River. Major Clarence Benjamin in a jeep was leading a small task force of two light tanks from Dog Company on a routine job of patrolling. The unit came upon some 200 shabby looking civilians by the side of the road.

At the end of the war, the SS moved around prisoners to get out of going to the front -- they claimed that they were too busy "guarding" prisoners to be sent into combat. The SS typically either ran off and left the prisoners alone, or handed them over to a unit of elderly Volksstrum, right before the allied troops arrived.
Never heard of that one, and I’m certainly not averse to subtitles. Two of my favorite films, “Babette’s Feast” and “Das Boot”, have subtitles. GREAT movies! I’ll look for the movie on Netflix.
