Forbes ^

What the hell was Washington Redskins coach Mike Shanahan thinking on Sunday afternoon?

Coach Shanahan demonstrated how to play Russian Roulette with an organization’s future by opting not to take quarterback Robert Griffin III out of the game when it was apparent as early as the end of the first quarter that his star QB reaggravated a significant knee injury sustained weeks ago

As a competitor and your coach asks you if you can do it, you say sure, no matter how bad you might feel........

Agree. If Washington had won this game, I expect the next would have been their last. RG III is a great quarterback but it takes a whole team to win. It just isn’t in place at this time. Risking the next ten years for one win was a bad gamble and I hope RG III can fully recover in the off season.

RGIII should seek out the physician who repaired Adrian Peterson’s (MN Vikings) blown out knee...he recovered rapidly to have a career year this season.

Ask the Manning brothers how they fared against the Falcons this season...Atlanta swept both the AFC West Division and the NFC East. The Georgia Dome is where opposing QB’s come to die...and the Falcons won’t be playing a one-legged QB.

Totally agree, Perdogg!
From the end of the first quarter when they were up by 14, I was screaming at the TV for Shanahan to take him OUT! It’s not like Cousins couldn’t have handled it and kept the roll going. RGIII was HURT and could NOT play his game and the doc and coach payed God with his knee.
By the 4th quarter, I said Shanahan WANTED to lose this game - plain and simple.
Crap coaching and should be fired for it...Cousins should try to be traded for a first string spot...but hope RGIII stays...a great kid!

I think I see Strahan’s autograph on there too.

That pic would be worth some moola.

Much as I dislike Shanahan I don’t agree with this criticism. Yeah it was apparent RGIII wasn’t at 100%, but it was by no means apparent he’d aggravated the injury. Like they said on Game Day, there’s a difference between hurt and injured, and while he clearly looked hurt he didn’t look injured. It’s the playoffs, that IS the future you nurse the player along for, if he thinks he can play you play him.

You can be a mobile QB and not take a lot of hits. Just look at the other sideline, Wilson is the same style if QB as RGII, he’s just not as fast and a lot smarter when it comes to protecting his body. McNabb was a running QB that had a long career, Elway too. It’s not about running, it’s about being smart at the end, knowing when to pop out of bounds, when to slide, how to get tackled.

We saw what would have happened to Dallas had they managed to beat the Deadskins in the last game of the regular season. Yes Seattle would have beaten da Boys but they would have been there instead of Washington. Ironicaly, as a Cowboys fan, I was pulling for Washington. Got to pull for the NFC East. Now that they’re gone, The Packers get my vote. For the only other team to have beaten the Stealers in the SB, they have my support to go all the way to New Orleans. Sure hated to see RGIII play that way but it was Shannahan’s call. The loss is on his shoulders alone.

I honestly didn’t remember who broke it...but Strahan seemed too contemporary to me.

I looked it up - Lawrence Taylor was the guy.

And I thought, whoa that would be a valuable autograph, since he’s surely dead from a drug overdose...but another Google search shows him to be alive.

Still would be a neat addition to an autograph collection....I’m not sure how I would approach Thiesman, for such a request.

Washington didn’t “blow” anything...Seattle is a better team, and I thoroughly expect Seattle to rout Atlanta next week.

No, they were defeated by a superior opponent.

I have to disagree. Up until Griffin re-aggravated the knee injury late in the 1st quarter, the Redskins were completely dominating the Seahawks on both sides of the ball. After that, Washington had no offense at all, and the defense still shut down Seattle for most of the game. Cousins should have come in in the 2nd quarter, or at least after halftime, once it was obvious that Griffin was no longer effective, and then we very well might have seen a different end result.

I found out today that Romo had broken ribs in the Redskin game.

If so, that'll put a crimp in his customary January golf game...

I have to disagree.

You can, but the Seahawks have the best defense in the NFL holding opponents to 15 points a game. They held the Redskins to 14. Successful teams make adjustments to their opponents offensive and defensive schemes. Cousins had no more success against the Seattle defense than did Griffin in the second and third quarters. Seattle's defense totally stymied Washington after the Redskins second touchdown.

They held the Redskins to 14.

In one quarter.

Cousins had no more success against the Seattle defense than did Griffin in the second and third quarters.

There's a big difference coming in in the 2nd quarter up 14 (or 11) and coming in the 4th quarter down 10. I can't say what would have happened, but the odds that Washington would have scored more than 14 would have gone up dramatically with an effective QB in the game.

Seattle's defense totally stymied Washington after the Redskins second touchdown Griffin re-aggravated the knee injury.

Fixed it for you.
