What the hell was Washington Redskins coach Mike Shanahan thinking on Sunday afternoon?

Coach Shanahan demonstrated how to play Russian Roulette with an organization’s future by opting not to take quarterback Robert Griffin III out of the game when it was apparent as early as the end of the first quarter that his star QB reaggravated a significant knee injury sustained weeks ago

I watched that live on TV. Man, that knee bent the wrong way BIGTIME!

I still remember seeing Theismann’s leg breaking on live TV. It looked incredibly painful.

Rest up and get well RG3. I want to see you playing well next season....

Even tho I was rooting against the Wash. Foreskins tonight...

I’m going to miss the “Mack Truck” sound of RG3’s signals before the snap.

I hope he recovers fully and quickly.

You don’t play for next season in the playoffs. No team does. Practically every player on the field has been beaten up during the season, so if you can walk and you are the starter, you play.

At least they didn’t put in Joe Webb.

Stupid. Fracking stupid. The opposite of what Washington Nationals did with Stephen Strasburg, which was to shut him before the playoffs. The Nationals did the right thing and look to the future while Redskins took a risk with their franchise quarterback.

Green Bay only had three starting quarterbacks since 1992. Guess how many started for the Redskins in that time period?

23.

“Green Bay only had three starting quarterbacks since 1992.”

If you’re using Favre as an example of someone who played a long time because the team took care of him and would never have let him play hurt, you might want to pick another example. There is no doubt he would have been numbed up and playing.

Wait a minute... Favre, Rodgers,... Flynn? Did he start a game (or a couple of games)?

When you have a back-up the caliber of Cousins then you have options. As a captain, it’s got to be RGIII’s choice, but a good captain will listen to a good coaches advice.

It's not so much about coddling Griffin as it is about the fact that Griffin stopped being effective when his knee started failing. The Skins should have sat RG3 at half-time - they could have won if they'd done so. They spent a fairly high pick on Kirk Cousins and he proved effective in relief in a couple of game - what was the point of getting Cousins if Shanahan refused to use him when it was clear Griffin wasn't able to play?

Favre is Favre. He isn’t human. His consecutive game streak will never been broken. Yep, Flynn started a couple of games when Rodgers got hurt.

I concur. Griffin clearly lost effectiveness, and it was obvious to see.

Shanahan blew it.

I'm sorry. I'm trying to feel your pain. But...

The only way it could have been better is if it was Da Bears on the receiving end of that beating.

It was clear that he should have been removed after the half. He would have never gone further in the playoffs anyway. The Seahawks have an excellent defense that will destroy a lame quarterback.

I have to say, watching RGIII’s knee move in ways mine never has made me feel very uncomfortable.
